Protein doesnt make you lose weight. It does help in cell building. It is the prime importance of the body. The only way it can help in losing weight is that it takes more energy (calories) to digest than other nutrients. If you are going to take it as a supplement I would suggest whey, unless you are vegeterian.
Hope this helps.

The protein itself has little effect on weight loss. However numerous studies have shown that the isoflavones in soy have a significant effect on the thyroid hormones responsible for fatty acid metabolism therefore making soy a prefered supplement for weight loss, that is if you can stand to take it. Most people(myself included) just can't seem to handle the taste of soy protein & therefore avoid it. Don't get me wrong, soy is not a diet wonder drug by any means, but if you don't mind the taste it could help a little, & I personally believe we can use any help we can get, no matter how small.

Hey now, I think the soy tastes better than the whey myself. I use both, whey after my workouts and soy at other times. I had already switched to a lot of soy products due to lactose intolerance before I started working out. I've heard good things about both actually, but the consensus is definitely whey after workouts!

I love the taste of soy; I think soy protein has sort of a nutty taste. I even use the "straight up" plain soy powder sometimes. It's great for baking. Personally whey may be better but soy works fine for me.
