hey everybody, my first post here on freetrainers.com. Seems like some people pay fortunes for the advice you can get here. Anywho, I have just started working out again for the first time since highschool, about 4 years ago. I have been working out hard for probably two weeks now. My goal is not to bulk up like a linebacker or anything, but gain some muscle while toning what I have. As of now I am by no means overweight, but seem to carry what extra weight I do have like a tire on my waist. Basically, I want to look like Bruce Lee. I have adjusted my diet, but I would love some expert opinions.

Before I go to work at 12:30 pm, I generally have a piece of whole wheat toast with some natural peanut butter and sugar free jelly. I'll also have a bowl of low-fat cottage cheese, a can of tuna and sometimes a few hard boiled eggs.
At work, I generally eat a few pieces of string cheese, and an hour before I workout at 9:00 pm I'll eat an apple and a granola bar for some quick carbs.
After I workout (I have neither the money nor means for a shake, unless you have cheap and easy ideas), I'll have a can of tuna and a large salad with spinach, broccoli, celery, carrots, tomatoes, lots of feta cheese and topped with a mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. If I'm still hungry I'll have some hard boiled eggs and maybe some peanuts. Sometimes I'll eat a salmon filet as well.

This pretty much constitutes my diet for the day. Any suggestions on losing that tire and toning up?

Just my .02, but it seems like you get a lot of fat in you on a daily basis. Why not remove the yolks from the eggs and skip the feta cheese.

1 Egg=5 grams of fat, 6 grams of protein
1 Egg White=0 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein

Feta Cheese=10 grams of fat/ounce (I think)
No feta cheese=0 fat

The natural peanut butter and peanuts are good, but these others seem unnecessary.

Two meal's a day???...you need to spread out your calorie intake for every two to four hours, your taking in more than your body can digest in one sitting and use so it is turning it into fat...if you eat throughout the day you keep your metabolism up and keep nutrients available to your body....and it does seem like you are ingesting a lot of fat like efitts has said...fat packs a whopping 9 calories per gram as apposed to protein which is only 4...so replace some of those cheese snacks with another form of protein...maybe beef jerky or somethin....but eliminate some of that fat...also don't eat so much after 7 pm as you don't use it over the night...if you eat this late just have protein and nothing else...your carbs and fat should be ingested before this time...hope some of this helps
