Hi all. Im 15 and I just got into the whole working out thing a little bit ago. My sister (a doctor) told me to lay off squats cause it puts to much pressure on my spine, and im at a young age so I shouldn't worry about it.
Should I follow her advice or does anyone have any comments about that?

First what kind of doctor is she? And she is right in that if you go very heavy it can cause problems if you have not laid a foundation to lift heavy. Take her advice...for now.

Wel just to say this, I started working out in 9th grade( 14 15yrs old) and I did squats not heavy starting out but i worked my way up. Cause as yoru strength in creases, so will bone density etc. Your back will get stronger and stronger and will support weight better. Now if you wanan see if you can squat 400lbs for your first max, yes you will hurt your self.......but if your start out at 100lbs and work yoru way up, then thats to me is ok. Ask her to be more specific and why? I mean bench presses puts stress on the shoulders, elbows etc......military puts pressure on shoulders, elbows back etc........are you alowed to do these? She is a doc and I respect her opinion.....but I would need a better reason than that just my opinion on that matter.

A lot of people avoid squats for this reason, moreso about long-term risks than short-term. Granted, most doctors don't have the first clue about exercise. As with any exercise, if you want to squat, squat, but understand the exercise, work on form, and don't worry about how much weight you can do.
