Your dot color will change as you accumulate "posts" if you put your pointer on the dot it will tell you the number needed for each dot. One rule: posts that are obviously posted solely to accumulate points can be deleted and do not count!

Itroisi, is this really true about posts that are solely to accumalte points can be deleted? I have seen maynt people just post one liners that seem silly but dont get pulled. How did you find that info out?

This is just my opinion but there are several ways to have useful posts. Some posts are to address specific questions, while others are just community builders. People need to be able to talk to each other or it's not really a community. I'm pretty sure the posts she's talking about are just people adding comments that accomplish neither.

Not like that.. back when the first dots/status symbols came on (around when the ft contest was still going) there was some guy that was trying to figure out how many posts you needed to get the next dot and ended up posting like 5 or 6 messages back to the same thread to try and get himself the next dot things like "I... Want... That.. Next... Dot..." all in seperate posts.. it wasn't too abusive like multiple threads but things like that are what ltorisi means will get deleted.. On that post anyway I think adrain replied to him telling him he was missing the point of the whole status system anyway.. I doubt you even need them too much.. the people that are really helpful (like rp and the mods) will pretty much show themselves and be quickly known to the newer people in no time by giving good advice and support...

How does a person become a moderator? I notice a few people(not moderators) who write about 10-20 responses a day and barely any of the responses are helpful. But if they think its cool to have a higher dot then I feel sorry for them. They know who they are! Have a nice day :)

Its not that their all not helpful.. some could just be to movtivate people and so on or let others know their advice was correct.. Also (like in the Under 25 forum) there could be posts to just chat about random things.. Then again a lot of people ask questions without really giving enough information about what they currently do or what exactly it is they want to do... things like "how do I get abs? My diet isn't working?" etc don't really say enough to be answered in just one post...

And you feel this post is helpful?

Prior to around February or March, there were no moderators on this site. George and Adrian (FT staff) chose certain individuals who they feel will be able to do the job as moderators.
Also, only moderators can delete messages and entire threads.

I agree with you Cainsands, its important to interact with eachother by asking questions and making comments. I do see the Moderators answering the questions well and in a timely manner. Also the members here are full of infor and ready to share any time.

I've been hanging around internet message boards for a long time. I even run one of my own. You can have people answering questions all day long, but that doesn't build a community. Trust me I've started one from scratch.
