Hey all. I have trouble staying motivated, which is why I joined up here. I'm in the Navy, and feel really out of shape for someone in the military. On a ship, It's hard to find the time or place to stay in shape, so I end up being mostly sedentary. Now, I'm on shore duty, and I swear I'm going to tone up and lose some weight... but it's been six months, and I've slacked off a lot. How do you guys stay on track with your fitness plan? I'm following the one I got from the site, but the longest I've stuck with it so far is three days in a row. I love bicycling, but it gets tough hauling stuff to work on my bike. I like hashing and I'm now on a softball team. I even like working out, but my wife doesn't like doing anything physically strenuous because she works so much, and since I don't see much of her... well. anyway, I'm at the top of my 8-week program AGAIN (two days strong, woo!) and i figure as long as I get to the gym before I go home and relax, I can do this. Anyone in the Newport, RI, area wants a work out buddy, let me know.

:o) I've learned that, when you want something badly enough, it will provide the desired motivation.
But of course it DOES help to keep track of it on one of the message boards for others to give you encouragement and motivation during unmotivated times <smile>
Must be nice to finally be off that ship...

Thanks, guys. I already skipped out yesterday, so here I go again. I'm going to pick it up today, though in a few minutes, then head home. Tomorrow, I'm helping my boss pave his yard or something like that, and I think hauling concrete around will be good for me. Sunday is Hash day, so there'll be plenty of running.
i've attempted to use the diet tracking program and it's nice, but really inconvenient. anyone have some ideas on how to help it work for me. mostly, i'm just trying to watch what i eat... i rarely, if ever, eat fast food anymore, and I don't have to worry about the high carb/fat content of the food on the ship right now.
thanks for the encouragement, jefado and ravenwolf.

Hey! I actually lived in Newport till the age of 15.. then I moved up to NH. Used to live on Berkley Ave.. just off Bellvue. =) Small world!
Robo.. something I do.. that works for me.. is to make it up in my mind that my new lifestyle is not an option. Heck, many days I don't FEEL like hitting the gym.. but I know if I do it I'll be happy later that I did. Eventually, you'll find it much easier to make the commitment. I look at what I've acomplished.. and goals I have yet to reach.. and PUSH PUSH PUSH! It is attainable! Works for me anyhow. Good luck!

Welcome to FT and what good advice you have gotten already. We are a motivated bunch. What do I do to keep motivated. I keep a diary of all that I do, diet workout, and such. In that diary I have written down my goals. Also there is a picture in there of what I never want to look like again. Another thing if I need a pat on the back for a goal achieved, I post it here, and if I feel I have failed at a goal, I also post it here. This place sure keeps me on track. It is a shame your wife and you can't get together on this because having your better half on your side is also a great motivator, maybe when she sees how great you are doing with it, she might jump right in there with you.
One more thing THANK YOU, you are one of the people I admire alot, because you are one of many who keep our homeland safe for my kids and grandkids to grow up in.

Welcome to Ft rbo and keep up the great work you are already doing. Perhaps exercising daily is to hard on you. Try 3x a week every 2nd day and this might motivate you to get back in the next time.
And Like Sandy said, keep a journal of your activity.
Good Luck.
