Last night I wanted to make a good dinner for Noirtula's birthday. :) Well, his birthday is Sunday, but I wanted it to be a surprise. I took 1/2 day off work and went to the store to get all of the stuff and had it ready when he got home.
I roasted a red and a yellow pepper and an entire clove(is that the right word?) of garlic under the broiler. On the garlic, it wasn't just one little thing off the big bulb...but the entire bulb you'd buy in the store. Put them in the food processer with a vidalia onion, sun dried tomatoes, salt, coarse ground black pepper, and a bit of cayenne and slowly added a bit of olive oil to make a marinade. I put it in a ziplock back with a steak and stuck it in the refrigerator for a couple hours. Then I put the steak on a broiler pan so the fats could drain and dumped the marinade on top of it.
And I made a salad with baby spinach leaves, finely chopped cucumber, turnip, carrot, and crumbled feta cheese, with sun dried cheeries. And I steamed fresh broccoli.
The meat was a bit tough. Next time I'll have to get like a strip or porterhouse steak...the top round was just too tough. But the flavors were good!
