After working out with weights I am supposed to have protein and carbs? After doing just cardio only protein?

Personally, I just take protine after my workouts. but, I work out late in the evening, so any carbs would stick on me. that's my take anyway. Good luck!

It is confusing. Some say protein and carbs pre weights, protein and fats post weights. And I think pre and post cardio is protein and carbs. It is the % that changes with each persons goals. Not much help, huh?

You ALWAYS need protein and simple carbs after training(weights), simply for recovery to regulate insulin back to normal levels and steady blood sugars. This post workout drink will in no way hinder your progress, in fact will greatly save muscle. You are in a very catabolic state post training, and you need to get cortisol shut off as quickly as possible. If you do not, you are hindering your long term fat burn for a very short term fix. Muscle is what burns calories even at rest, and if you don't shut off cortisol post training, you are eating the very thing you are working to achieve. You may burn a few more calories, but in the end, you will lose due to the slow down of metabolism, the worsening fat to muscle ratio, etc. After your post workout drink, then at your next meal have a lean protein, low GI carb meal(no potatoes, etc.), and fibrous veggies to keep blood sugars stable and insure no insulin release.

I had a guy at work once, go into big time detail on all of this and I don't remember exactly what he said hehe sorry... He was VERY into all of this and I was just kind of half way working out for the heck of it.

But I do know he said to eat some type of carbos after any type of work out even if you just eat one cracker or a bite of a cracker. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel after a work out if you eat a tiny bit of a carb like that. It's awesome!

Thanks Ron, so I need to have a drink shortly after my workout that has carbs in it (I train at 7 p.m.), should I still have a "meal" after that since I am still trying to lose weight and go to bed at 10?

A meal is fine, but make it lean protein, fibrous veggies, and a little fat. 1 tbsp.of flax or fish oil will do. Fat does not elicit an insulin response, and this is what you want now. Plus it will slow digestion for you so you have some slow releasing amino acids somewhat throught the night.
