Ive begun my program (it rocks!) but can you substiute certain exercises? For example i have tried numberous times over time to do straight leg deadlifts correctly but i am worried about hurting my self...so i used the leg curl machine (where you lay on your stomach).

Are machines less effective even if performed right?

Q#2 For the sets, is the idea to increase your weight on the last set?

thanks!!

The machine is isolating your hamstrings. Effective if that is your goal.

The deadlift is working your spinal ercetors, your hamstrings, your calves, your abs, your arms/shoulders., your stabilizing muscles....pretty much your whole body. You will burn more calories and get better results with the compound movement.

Are you working out at home or at a gym?
There have been a lot of posts previously on how to deadlift - might even be one in the FAQs forum. Se if an y of those help. If you are working out at the gym, ask one of the trainers to show you proper form.

Yes, increase your weight each set as the reps decrease.

If you are worried about hurting yourself you probably have too much weight. Drop the weight and focus on the form first.
