I need Help putting together a program which will increase my strength & endurance level, Without adding Bulky muscles,
(maybe not the best way to say it, but this brute of a fellow at the gym couldn't swat a "skeeter" off his neck).I guess what I'm looking for is to be strong and agile. Theonly times I can use the gym is Mon thru Fri. I'd rather stick with machines if possible. thanks

but machines don't do your lil stabilitizer muscles to a degree... so how u going to have heaps of strength without them built up let alone.. be agile??? also.. whats wrong with bulky muscles? who ever said having muscles would slow you down or anything?? besides... getting stronger in anyway shape or form is building some sort of muscle up right..? eh ur post dun rly make sense to me so if my answer my answer mite not either... :surprised:

start doing very heavy olyympic movements

Cleans, Clean and Jerk, Push Press, Snatch

do with weights which u can do only those reps ...

like (5,3,3,3)

also do Deadlifts/Squats with same reps
you'll gain absolute strength...ie be able to lift maximal weights without being overly muscular...

strong and agile for what? sprinting? track, football, b ball? base ball?.......or just cause?

If you train....rep wise slowly...thats how they will contract.....slow. Which will carry over to sports what have you.

But if your train the muscle to contract as fast as possible, thats how they will work.....fast and explosovlly.

menace had it right.....cleans will make you all over very stable.......and for full body explosion......kepp the reps under 5 like he said.......and concentrate ont he explosion of the rep. Moving the weight as fast but controlled as possible.

desperateguy how does your response have anything to do with this post? mindlessly using steroids is a waste of money ..'just to get strong'

although your post has nothing to do with this post...for your sake I hope you do A LOT of research before doing any type of steroid...otherwise you're not even getting the proper benefits, and the negative effects REALLY outweigh the positive....(however I really hope you avoid steroids all together)

Pftca Andrew is right if you are training for sports specific activities, then the tempo while you're lifting should account for it....so for power sports, fast/explosive/low rep sets with both very heavy and very light weights will work great....for endurance sports slower/more fluid/higher rep sets with moderate weights will probably help more....

Im so confused. What do you want to get more agile for? sports? Maybe you should try the kick boxing or aerobics classes nextdoor in the gym.
And why do you want to use machines?????
BTW, have you ever seen a 220lb powerlifter sprint. Their pretty fast considering all that bulky muscle.
