Hi all. I just read in "ACSM's Resources for the Personal Trainer" that "isolating the lumbar spine through pelvic stabilization mechanisms during exercise training forces the lumbar muscles to be the rimary trunk extensors... devices that stabilize the pelvis have produced unusually large gains in lumbar extension strength..." Does anyone know how to stabilize the pelvis to isolate the lumbar muscles?
Basically what it is saying that if the pelvis is stationary and all the flexion is done at the lower back as opposed to the hips then you will strengthen lumbar extension strength.
This is not something I recommend, in fact it is something I highly advise against, so I'm not going to give you any exercises for it, but I'm sure if you want to you can figure it out.
