Recently I was reading some ingredients on a variety of protein bars and noticed that a lot of them are now containing 'sugar alcohols'.
The low-carb people seem to be going crazy over this stuff because it's not supposed to metabolize in the body very well.
The conservative part of me went with avoiding food with them in it until I had more information. I googled some information on them and found out what they are, but I couldn't really get any info on whether they are good or bad.
Maybe its to early to tell? Does anybody know much about this topic?

I have used many products containing sugar alcohol and the only real drawback I have found is that they will flat out tear your stomach up if you are sensitive to it or you consume too much of it.

The "to good to be true" alarm is ringing like crazy. So this is a carbohydrate with only half the calories of normal sugars and other then bad gas there are no serious side effects?

I think that the sugar alchohols (according to the website, http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/carbs.htm) have the exact amount of calories as a normal sugar. Not half. That's What i thought I read at least. I don't think there are any serious side effects. No
