I am male 30yrs & just started working out with basic stuff like free weights in a gym.I am 130 pounds pretty slim but a lil fat on my tummy. My job is sedentary (computer graphics). My goal is gaining muscle mass upto say 175 pounds atleast plus get toned abs.

A friend suggested that I take some sugar like some dextrose powder or glucose d (with high glycemic index, which dissolves instantly in the bloodstream ) immediately after the workout, mixed with water. After that I should have my protein powder in milk.
He says before taking protein powder its good to have sugar as it reaches the fatigued muscles instantly & restore the glycogen levels in the muscles fast.

However a salesman at a nutrition store told me thats not true.He suggested that I take protein powder after the workout & says that sugar is harmful & unnecessary.

What should I do , please suggest.

For Joe Couch Potato, the sugar may and is indeed harmful. But for a hard training bodybuilder, this is a much different ballgame and indeed needed.
