I went fishing yesterday for a good amount of time, and I got some bad sunburn. It is difficult to workout any body part without the pain and the burn of the sunburn. It really sucks to be working out with the pain, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Any suggestions to aid in the healing process of the skin? How long with the burning last? When will I start to peel? Hopefully soon!

Damn, that's gotta hurt! I don't know how to recover, but a good precaution to remember is that you shouldn't see a change in skin color until about a day after being exposed to the sun. Otherwise you get sunburn. Lotions with SPFs of 45 and up help avoiding the burn as well.
Try taking a long warm bath tonight to relax the skin. I had 3rd degree burns on my shoulders one summer and that was absolute hell. All I could do for it was soak in the tub, so give it a try. Good luck. |

DX...I got one myself. Great weekend of fishing, dirtbikes and cow pasture football...but my chest, shoulders and back are paying for my stupidity. When I worked out this morning did more cardio then weights for the day...cause the arm movement just plain hurts. Of course most of my workout is cardio anyways so it's not to far from my normal workout. Also I put lotion on before and after my shower to keep the skin moisturized.
I usually have to do this once a year. For some reason I don't tan well if I do a bit here and there...gotta kill of that top layer of skin first. Then once I get that out of the way I can be in the sun 10 minutes and get a decent tan. Not very smart I know...but it works for me. |

OH I see. I bought some Aloe Vera and that seems to work wonders. It says on the bottle that it will prevent the peeling and stuff like that but I don't know yet. It sure does give you instant relief. Try this stuff it really works.

Store it in the fridge then use it...it feels incredible. Even though I've never found anything to prevent peeling....even putting it on 3 and 4 times a day I still peel.

I'll try that. It won't ruin the active ingredients in the substance if you store it in the fridge? Who suggested this to you? I'm impressed if you were just experimenting.

Here is a starter use sunblock! also by aloe with lidocaine in it. This will numb the burned area also.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. I am ANIMAL! and that is enough. |

When I had my burns I think I was prescribed an aloe vera, idk, that was a while ago. I looked into this more and here's some useful info:
~Aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen can help combat pain ~Anesthetic creams or sprays containing benzocain and lidocain provide temporary relief ~Antibacterial and antimicrobial soaps and antiseptics help prevent infection ~Aloe-based products soothe and cool overheated skin ~Moisturizers can help keep your skin from drying out and tightening up ~Oil-based products and ointments should be avoided. Read this!! http://beauty.about.com/od/summertanning/f/tamesunburn.htm This one's good too http://www.tanning.gb.net/sun_burn.htm |

Thanks for the links lifter_puller. lol @ mmaibohm. Yeah I know, next time I'll be sure to wear sunblock. It's just that my dad was rushing me to get the boat ready and stuff and I had just waken up. My brain wasn't really functioning at full potential at that time.

I know right after a burn...applying canola oil and baking soda helps decrease severity of the burn...
don't think you'll like this...but urine helps tremendously in relieving pain from a burn/sunburn....

Are you serious? Urine? I usually believe everything you say Menace, but I'm going to have to search for this fact myself. That's very hard to believe. It's disgusting. I don't think I'll try it. But thanks for the information.

I tried it and so has my mother when she was a kid....I got a horrible burn as a kid with boiling coffee...nothing helped...and in kazakhstan resources were limited....I peed in a little tub and soaked my leg in it...worked like a charm ...got rid of the pain ....my skin came off down to the muscle...but at least pain was gone....my mom mom grabbed a scalding pipe with both hands as a kid...did same thing...also worked for pain...is it so disgusting? it's your own urine...
people survived for days by drinking their own urine...(granted this is way more 'disgusting' but you do what you gotta to survive) compounds found in urine: * Alanine, total ..... 38 mg/day * Arginine, total ..... 32 mg/day * Ascorbic acid ..... 30 mg/day * Allantoin ..... 12 mg/day * Amino acids, total ..... 2.1 g/day * Bicarbonate ..... 140 mg/day * Biotin ..... 35 mg/day * Calcium ..... 23 mg/day * Creatinine ..... 1.4 mg/day * Cystine ..... 120 mg/day * Dopamine ..... 0.40 mg/day * Epinephrine ..... 0.01 mg/day * Folic acid ..... 4 mg/day * Glucose ..... 100 mg/day * Glutamic acid ..... 308 mg/day * Glycine ..... 455 mg/day * Inositol ..... 14 mg/day * Iodine ..... 0.25 mg/day * Iron ..... 0.5 mg/day * Lysine, total ..... 56 mg/day * Magnesium ..... 100 mg/day * Manganese ..... 0.5 mg/day * Methionine, total ..... 10 mg/day * Nitrogen, total ..... 15 g/day * Ornithine ..... 10 mg/day * Pantothenic acid ..... 3 mg/day * Phenylalanine ..... 21 mg/day * Phosphorus, organic ..... 9 mg/day * Potassium ..... 2.5 mg/day * Proteins, total ..... 5 mg/day * Riboflavin ..... 0.9 mg/day * Tryptophan, total ..... 28 mg/day * Tyrosine, total ..... 50 mg/day * Urea ..... 24.5 mg/day * Vitamin B6 ..... 100 mg/day * Vitamin B12 ..... 0.03 mg/day * Zinc ..... 1.4 mg/day from http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/urine_martha.htm and there's some useful info on http://www.universal-tao.com/article/therapy.html I am not saying do this...all I am saying is that with few resources...available to you it's highly effective at treating bad burns....just another way to look at this problem......Afterall you can wash away anything with soap afterwards...as far as I know....

I think it's the urea in urine that is good for your skin - you can get skin creams which contain urea (I would go for this option, rather than walking about smelling of piss all day)

roflmao...you guys are hilarious....
who'd in their right mind would walk around smelling like urine the whole day...there's such thing as taking a bath after this procedure...lol...like I said soap/shampoo washes away just about everything.... fsdsk...I thought it was very disgusting too but when you are in terrible pain ....you'll suck it up and just do it...I remember there was even an episode of 'Friends' with such a circumstance....
