Hey all, I was just wondering if getting up and working out at 6 AM conflicts with taking supplements with meals and all? Some supplements say to take them a half an hour before lifting. I have to work out early morning because I have classes throughout the day and sometimes into the evening. Plus I find it enjoyable to be up early working hard. Right now I am going to take creatine and my multi-vitamin within 10 minutes of waking and have my protein supplement within an hour after workout. Does that sound right? Any better times to further utilize the supplement? Thanks for any responses.

well, you would be better off taking in a lot of carbs 1-1.5 hours before you work out... if you work out empty stomached you'll probably be burning some muscles for fuel, and you don't want that... also, take your protein after your work out within 30 minutes tops! you should be taking it immediatly after you're done, because your body absorbs the protein better... bb1 has explained this many times but i can't remember the technical details about that right now... all i know (from what i've learned from his posts) is that if you don't take your protein within that 30 minute gap after your work out, you'd wasting a golden opportunity there... so....

I take 5 g of creatine within the first 10 minutes of waking up, but that is all. I don't have time to eat anything between when I wake up and when I work out. What would you suggest for "quick-carbs" before I work out? Why eat 1-1.5 hours before I work out. I haven't noticed a huge loss of muscle mass from working out on an empty stomach.

Try an MRP if you don't have time to cook anything. Shaker bottle, water, and down the hatch.

bb1, I sort of fall in the same category. I work out every morning (m-f) at 5:30am. I suck down a scoop of whey with 8oz of skim milk and 5g's of creatine. I work out and within 30 minutes after the workout I drink a MRP.
Is this ok? Do you think it's possible I'm burning muscle because of the lack of calories/carbs from not eating beforehand? Do you have any other suggestions?
I can not change my schedule due to work and family obligations.
Thanks
-------------- Mike

Ok, just to be clear,
An MRP before workout and protein shake plus some simple carbs after should do the trick?
Plus - How much benefit have you found to using Creatine?
-------------- There is no substitute for hard work

This is good in your case, and for mikecan also. Creatine is very helpful, but give it time. If you have just started training, you will make plenty gains without it. Let these happen first, then use creatine if you so desire. ============
