My goal is to reach 600g of carbs a day. By the end of the day I usually only get around 300 - 400g (sometimes less). Would it be ok to use maltodextrin in a homemade MRP (oats, eggs, protein powder, peanut butter) to increase the carbs since it's complex? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Malto, though technically a complex carb, has very weak chains that are easily broken down. This makes it act like a simple sugar, which is why it is good in conjunction with dextrose, (about the only faster simple sugar) for post workout. It would be a big mistake to use malto. Way too many insulin spikes, your insulin sensitivity will take a beating and you will lean more insulin resistant. This will in turn add to much more easily accumulated fat gain.

bb1fit,

What are some good ways to get complex carbs in a homemade MRP? For that matter, what recipe do you recommend for a good weight gainer MRP? I've been reading a lot of your posts. Also been looking for the recipe everyone's been talking about that you posted once. Haven't found it yet .

Also, my brother is trying to get into bodybuilding as well. He's 145lbs and in his early 30's (I'm bad with age!). He does not have internet so I can't get him signed up. Do you know some good resources that I can direct him to? Thanks!

Stay cool!

Oatmeal, whey, cottage cheese, natural peanut butter. If calories are your game, you can mix in milk. Add 2-4 tbsp. of heavy cream for some added calories and good fats. Do a couple of these a day, they are good and you know what is in them as opposed to store bought junk loaded with fillers and sugars.

Awesome shake. I'm going to try that a few hours after lunch. Thanks ron! :)
