Hey all,
I already asked this question in another message board, however I was directed to search here. Unfortunately I have not found the direct answer to my question. Here's the thing. I wake up every morning M-F at 0440 and work out from 0530 - 0630 (sometimes all the way to 0700). On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday my command requires me to run 1.5 miles. Is this going to effect the muscle mass I have been gaining? What can I do to make sure muscle mass is not lost from running immediately after an hour workout? Here is my current pre/post.
Pre: Whey (23g P) in water, 2 slices toast or 1 cup rice or oat meal. Diff some days.
Workout 0530 - 0630/0700
Post: Whey times 2 (46g P) 46g Dextrose, 46g Malto in water.
Run 1.5 miles at 0730.
Should I modify my workout to end at 0730 on M, W and F and just run, then take post shake after run? Or should I take a shake before and after run? I'm completely baffled! =) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- Paul

I think the way you are doing it looks right, you want to replenish your muscles before running. After running have either another shake or a meal to replenish again.
You will get more advice, I am sure afetr the weekend when more people are online.

I hope it is. However, the stress level of getting all the shakes and food prepared has been high. Is it absolutely necessary to work out 5 days a week when gaining mass? Or would it be possible to reduce down to 3 days a week and still be able to get decent results on mainly upper body mass?

Thank you for your reassurance asimmer. So far no problems. I've been doing the shake before workout, PWO shake, and then running about 30 - 45 minutes later. After my run I eat a Natural Peanut Butter sandwich and Protein Supp. Also started doing FT's fitness plan instead of my own. I believe my workout was taking too long and I was beginning to burn out.
Thanks again for your help!

Glad you found something that will leave you less burnt out. I was under the impression that it was a military-prescribed workout, sorry, or I would have offered some advice there.
Good luck!
