Any ideas to increase my energy level for the next week? I have to stay on my feet until my last final (French, yuck) on 5/12. All I want to do is sleep. I'm too tired to take my walk, if I lie down to do my exercises I'm out within less than a minute. I'll take any and all suggestions.

My survival pack from school includes Cheetos, Diet Coke, a Snickers bar, some bubble gum and a nifty pencil with a happy face eraser. That is just twisted and wrong, except for the pencil which is loaded with fiber.

Vous réussirez... vous êtes une femme forte!!

Je m'appemle Danielle, je parle le français juste un peu, et je le comprende même moins. <--my standard response when asked if I speak French.

I go with music Anni, I find it helps for so many situations.. when I need to focus at work or just to change my mood. Preferably symphonic or something without words so I can still focus on the task at hand.

I don't really do caffeine though so I'm not very helpful in that department.

Merci Danielle, je fera mon meilleur pour être fort.

Votre Français est tout à fait bon, merci pour l'usage de lui, je juste ne peut pas obtenir assez.

My apologies to those who are fluent, I've only had two semesters.

The music is a good idea, I think that I will start with a little Annie Lenox and perhaps a little ice cream.

I go now to finish my paper.

oh and i definitely go with the music theory also...i listen constantly.... plus...study breaks are key.

My first final is due thursday (experimental photography) and lord ive been busting my arse for it. i have a strong portfolio just like i did last semester, but i want it to be even better. Best of luck to everyone

Experimental photography sounds like a great class. I love black and white photography but haven't been able to make room in my schedule to take any classes for it.

I'm bad about not taking breaks, I can and do study for 10 hours at a time. Of course I change subjects every 60 minutes, but I don't step away from the books. I'm trying to do better.

My paper still isn't finished but I got two more pages done last night.

Good luck to you Tex and anyone else struggling their way through finals.

Anni, votre francais est excellente, et vous n'aurez pas avoir des problemes sur ton examen.
Votre francaise est bon aussi Danielle.

Try some extra protein and go for caffeine to keep you going.
You might want to try a Hansons Energy Drink. Really helpful.

anni if i knew french i would leave you the most spectacular note of encouragement en francaise, however, i am limited to saying "my sister has a yellow pencil" and "i have to pee now, where is the bathroom please." not the most motivating phrases.

i was never good at surviving the finals. one year i tried locking myself in the medical sciences library with all of the serious doctor people with some skittles and a bottle of water - strangely that worked. what didn't work was taking my anthropology notes to the bar and reading in dim light with a pint by my side.

you're super intelligent, i'm sure that no matter what you do you're going to blow those blasted exams out of the water. let us know how things go for the last 4 days - we're all pulling for you!

T minus 4 days.....

2:30AM The day begins

After 3.5 glorious hours of sleep with my main man (my teddy bear) Crosby, I'm up. I'm confused, but I'm up. The theme song from Mission Impossible plays softly in the background (da da da... da da da...) as I skulk to the scales that I was supposed to throw away. I've had the dream again, the one where I have lost so much weight while I slept that I have morphed into the paper doll, Betsy McCall.

It was only a dream, I'm still 3 dimensional, although I'm not certain which 3 dimensions, I know only that my mass is too high and that's before it is squared... Stop it!

I speak harshly to the scales and make my way to the coffee pot. 36 hours until my 50 point oral interview in French, (duh duh duh) I think to myself "mais je ne parle pas francais, sacre bleu...

To be continued.....

Tres bien Princess!

This brings up a rare and wonderful opportunity to examine the French language, up close and personal.

When using bon with masculine nouns:

Bon courage! = Good luck!
Bon voyage! = Have a good trip!
Bon anniversaire! = Happy birthday

When using with feminine nouns, we use bonne:

Bonne chance! = Good luck!
Bonne journee! = Have a nice day!
Bonne nuit = Good night (not to be confused with bonsoir which means good evening, evening being some time after dark but before you go to bed)

Alternatively, it can also be:

Ah bon? = Really?

How then do we reconcile the use of the phrase "Tres bien" which means very good, but does not contain the word "bon(ne)? The answer is, we can't because we are not French and they are the only people who actually get this.

This concludes this morning's French lesson.

Laissez les bon temps roulez!
(French for "let the good times roll." It should be noted here that this is actually Cajun French and should probably not be employed unless one is in New Orleans, possibly acceptable only during mardi gras. Mardi gras literally translated means Tuesday fatty (as in food) and is verbalized as Fat Tuesday.

Any questions?

Anni... you are good. You are going to fly through that examin sans probleme!
You know what? Where I live it is illegal not to have a store sign or advertisement that is not in French. The english words have to be 2/3 smaller.Otherwise you get busted by the language police (No joke).

dfly you don't get it, I don't get it, nobody gets it. lol French is a very beautiful but complex language. Et oui, je ne comprends pas aussi.

carivan I know exactly what you talking about and there are language police. The French are extremely proud of their language and refuse to allow it to be butchered or tampered with it without some kind of national referrendum or somthing like that. I agree with them completely, I just wish there slightly fewer rules.

T minus 3 days....

4:45 AM

I fly out of bed at 2:30AM after having the classic "I've overslept and missed my exam" dream. Have now racked up 7 hours of sleep in the last 48.

For reasons I do not fully comprehend, the song Fly Like An Eagle is stuck in my head. One has to think that this is better than having it stuck ON my head.

Maggie gave me a new Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencil for Mother's Day. It has tres fabulous blue pipe cleaner coiled around it's length with big purlple heart that says "I love you." The heart sticks up and so I can see that she loves me while I take my test. It is my new lucky test-taking pencil. The excitement grows.

Oral interview in 5 hours. I still do not speak French...

Pray for a friend of mine. I am just now going to sleep (5:55am). The stress of the year compounded with stress of finals broke him.

At 2:45am BC police recieved a phonecall about a young man having overdose on aderol in his bedroom. Still awake and functioning, but needing psychiatric help. Upon responding to the phonecall, the officers were greeted with 4 young men concerned for the wellbeing of their hallmate. We showed the officers to the room. After 30minutes of convincing from the officers, the young man babbling incoherently was escorted to the ****** hospital.

We do not think he will be able to take his finals nor even finish this semester as a result. He had been acting peculiar for 3 days now, but tonight was extraordinary, and his behavior infront of the police officers confirmed that we had done the right thing. The officers even admitted they had not seen something or someone like this in a very long time.

Puts quite a bit of the trivial things i've been dealing with into perspective. Im glad to have my health.

You'll do well anni...take care.

That's not a happy story. I will certainly pray for you and your friend.

So far the only NEW indication that I am losing my mind is an overwhelming urge to wear a pink tutu and a sombrero.:surprised: As I do not own either one of those things and don't have time to shop, I am resisting the temptation.

Fahn fanh fonh. Juex de pleus Jean Val Jean. Maury Chevrolet was an ok actor. I speak french like Joey from friends. Anni good luck with the exams. As soon as you finish you can jump feet first into Challange 2004. That covers mind and body. Wear your aluminum foil hat to your exams. It will channel your thoughts properly. Wear the vasoline in your face. That will make your professor wonder what the hell is wrong with you and also make me laugh. Good luck mon anni.

Thanks guys. My sense of humor and perspective in general are starting to wane just a bit. It's all good and I am approaching the home stretch.

Just in case anyone is curious, the 10 page psych paper that was kicking my butt earlier in this post came back today 95/100 and French oral exam was 46/50.

Just 40 more hours until I can say I am a Junior. I soldier on wearing stylish aluminum foil hat....

Thanks you guys. I don't remember finals week being this grueling in the past, but then I don't usually remember too much about finals week anyway.

Have racked up 11 hours of sleep since getting up Saturday morning so I'm just about done. My last final is Wednesday morning at 9am, just 12 hours to go.

Carivan I'll bet you look precious in your tutu.
