I am new to weight lifting. I have been diagnosed with tachycardia (occassional rapid heartrate). Twice since I started lifting weights, 3 months ago, the tachycardia kicked in. It only lasted each time for about 5 minutes and then slowed down to normal again. Its very scary, usually I only have tachycardia at night. My question is this, is it normal for the heart rate to get up to 125 bpm during weight training. Especially, when working the quads. When working my legs, my heart rate has gotten up to 151 bpm. It will come down pretty quick when I get through. I have hired a trainer and she said that it is not normal. My heart specialists has said weight lifting is ok but not to strain. I have to do this gradual and although I'm very excited about my new exercise program its hard not to work very hard at lifting. I'm 47 and in good health other than the tachycardia, which is not suppose to be a serious problem. Can anyone relate or just let me know if it is normal for my heart rate to increase during work outs?
