OK, I'm in New Jersey and New York for vacation. I went through a lot in the last month, and am venturing with a whole new chapter of my life. I *really* want a tattoo. Always have. I want a small one - no bigger than an inch square.
The big question - where should I get it that can easily be shown, easily hid, and most of all - won't look different/weird when I lose more weight, build up more muscle, etc etc etc. I want to lose 20-30 more lbs, then start more weights and perhaps bulk up a little with some muscle. Ideas? Oh - if you're wondering what I want - it would be a little coffee cup. ;-) -------------- ~~~~~~~ROXIE~~~~~~~ http://www.mycoffeegirl.com |

My wife has one on her toe and so do I. That is a place that wont look bad if you lose weight and it is easily hid or if you want, you can wear sandles so that people can see it. It doesnt really hurt when they do it,so its not to bad. Another choice could be your ankle. Or somewhere around there.

hip, butt, back; main thing is to make sure you really like it. I have had a couple, 1 on my shoulder and an arm band, I like them both, and have had no regrets.-------------- "Get everthing you want--just make a little change now" |

Since it is something so small, I'm thinking about the ankle - but I wear a LOT of sandals - so that's not a real "hiding" place. ALTHOUGH - it is someplace that won't move much with weight changes. That's why I'm shying away from the hip area (which I LOVE) - because I have a pudgy belly now - and *someday* I'll be pregnant, I'm sure.
The other one is the back - but I was thinking if I like it and can handle the pain...then I would want the other tattoo that I want there, cause it's a bit bigger. :-) Oh.....man.....I can't wait! I have a little coffee cup that I like - and I've wanted it for a while. Not only am I a coffee freak, but starting my coffee stand when I get home is my first business venture where I'm following my heart - so it's something that will *always* mean something to me! -------------- ~~~~~~~ROXIE~~~~~~~ http://www.mycoffeegirl.com |

I have another one too, besides the one on my toe. It is just a little purple heart, about 3/4". It is on my chest, just to the inside of most brastraps. Wider ones actually cover it. But in a low cut or strapless top it shows. It is not so low that a change in brest size (which will happen with weight loss and weight training)has affected the size or shape at all. Until I got married, most of my family didnt even know I had it, but my dress was low enough for it to show at the wedding. If it is small, it wont show much on your ankle. I like the ones on the back, near the shoulder blades too. Again it will only show with the right kind of top, or swimsuit. Be sure and let us now where you decide to put it.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

I'm leaning a lot toward the ankle thing - but not low one the ankle - more like about 2" above and 1" behind the bone that sticks out on the right ankle. Kinda lower calf - right where it starts to get fleshy.-------------- ~~~~~~~ROXIE~~~~~~~ http://www.mycoffeegirl.com |

Hey! Welcome to my neck of the woods in good old New York...don't take shit from no one!lol Anyway, I have alot of tatoos and I have fluctuated in weight over the years with these tatoos. Your best bet, as a female who stores and loses fat in different places than a male like myself, is to get it on the hip, lower back, ankle, back of the neck or upper shoulder blade.-------------- May the lift be with you. |

Cool thanks. I have this beautiful sun picture that i want on my lower back - so I don't want to get anything else on my back. I've only wanted that one for like 10 years now, so I think I'd be safe to ink it! This is just a little coffee cup, so it's different. The cup I want is like this one - but different steam:
http://www.impressrubberstamps.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=A4327-coffee_cup&Category_Code= I picked that one because there is a little Space Needle that goes with it: http://www.impressrubberstamps.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=A4325-space_needle&Category_Code= I want to get the coffee cup in NY, and then the Space Needle in Seattle. Goofy, eh? Anyway - I'm aiming for the Ankle, and I've been doodling little coffee cups on me to look at the location. :-) I'm excited! And how can I take shit from anyone? No one gives me any shit. Although the bagel lady gave me a bag of free bagles, and the coffee lady gave me free coffee. I got free breakfast on New Year's Day - people want to give me stuff when they find out it's my first time here from Seattle. It's funny. The first thing they say with attitude "Are you from California?" - when I say no, Seattle - POOF - They are sweet as pie to me! :-D -------------- ~~~~~~~ROXIE~~~~~~~ http://www.mycoffeegirl.com |

Hey coffee girl. I got a tattoo on my ankle about 6 years ago.
It barely hurt (only when he came very close to the ankle bone itself) and I get compliments on it all the time. As a teacher, I have to be careful what I show, and the ankle is easily covered yet also easy to show off when the time comes. My weight has yo-yo'd since I got it, and the tattoo hasn't suffered at all. I also got mine a little above the bone. My tattoo guy wouldn't put it any lower. good luck! |

I have a red rose and in the stem is a broken heart (Got it after a bad divorce) It is on my breast, low enough down that it will show only if I want it to. I weighed about 167 when I got it and I got down to about 127 last summer it did not effect the tatoo at all. No regrets here, I still like it. Funny thing after that divorce I wanted to have three things, a tatoo, a pickup truck and a motorcycle, still haven't got the bike but BB1fit and I have talked about it a couple of times.-------------- THE NATURAL WAY IS THE ONLY TRUE PATH TO SUCCESS, PRIDE, JOY, HAPPINESS, LONG TERM FULFILLMENT AND SELF-ESTEEM! |

hey coffee congrats!! I too have one on my ankle. Easy to hide and easy to show. No problems with weight fluctuation. Just DO NOT pick the scabs! It will take the color out. Use sunscreen heavily on that area during the summers or the color will fade. Best of luck with it!~

I would get it on the inside of your ankle. That would be the best place for you. Do not get it on the bone get it above the bone.

Ok ya'll- for those of you who've HAD tattoos.. I have a couple of questions!
1- I want to get eeyor on my back.. just at the waist line- however, this will be a "special" eeyor... he's gonna be wearing USMC dress Blues- with my sons name near his feet. Around the top I want to put "USMC Mom"... and across the bottom it is going to read "I got yer back" (although that might switch places).- Do most tattoo parlors allow for custom made designs? 2- Does it hurt ... ALOT?... like worse than child birth? If it isnt worse than that... I can handle it! haha 3- I heard if you have fat padding on the spot where they put it, that it hurts more? Is this true?? This is going to be my ulimate goal achevement 'reward'. My son leaves for boot in June- and I plan on reaching my goal by Sept (when he becomes a Marine!) Thanks all! |

Here's my take:
1 - MOST good tattoo parlors do allow custom made designs. 2 - The pain is pretty low key - about like a cat scratch/cigarette burn is how id describe it. 3 - Fat padding = less pain, i think. The one that hurt the worst for me was on my rib cage (im a skinny sob). Least painful was in more padded/fatty areas think long and hard about it, take care |

I have two on my back, barely hurt at all. Thinking about one on the chest or arm as a final "reward".-------------- If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.--- Desiderata, Max Ehrmann, 1927 |

actually cherbhere2 as a tatto artist 1)custom art is almost incouraged by all artists
2)pain is in eye of beholder it depends on your tolerance level mostly like a cat scratch or bee sting(ask abou ta water line at a good tattoo parlor.you will pay for needle couple bucks but they actualoly will set everything up and insteed of ink use water and run a line on you so you feel exactly what is like with out in permancy of ink. 3)body fat if too much will push the nerves closer to the surface and be slightly more senitive .there you have it from a tatto artist -------------- Dave "lost viking seeking Valhalla" |
