I have quite bad tennis elbow in 1 arm and golfers elbow in the other. I find doing most Bicep exercises and some pulldown work very painfull. I am making good gains everywhere else including triceps. What bicep exercises put the least strain on my elbows. I have considered super slow training but have no experiance of this type of work.---------------------------- paulyJ |

That's a tough question. I've had tennis elbow about 2 years ago. I stopped playing for a month and it healed. I haven't had it since. You can try slow training, but I don't think that'll solve your problem. You've got to let your tendinitis heal. Good luck... -------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! |

Damn man, don't mess up the elbow for your golf game! hehe Seriously though, I don't know enough about the tendons and ligaments in the elbow to tell you what to do but, I would personally see a physical therapist if it were me. They can direct you on strength training exercises for building them back up. When you do figure it out, post your results because that's a common problem.Good luck. DP |

Had the tendonitis 6 yrs ago. It has to go away by itself.Don't try and fool yourself, even if doesn't hurt it still not healed. Dont forget, it is inflamed and delicate. A brace will help you alot. like King says "See a therapist" |

Thats great, I will try a brace and see if that eases things. Will take kings advice and will post the outcome, thanks-------------- paulyJ "Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing". |

I have also experienced this, and I think time will heal it. It is pretty common. I have found that cable curls did not hurt me when I had this, and was able to keep my mass and maybe even gain a little using them. Incline dumbbell curls also seemed ok. Barbell curls were killers. could not do them at all. |

Well, my wife has the same thing right now, the tennis elbow, and she did just this morning cable curls with a new heavy weight, and no pain at all. She walked over and tried the curling bar, and couldn't do them. |

I have had severe tennis elbow several times. The traditional approach is to lay off and load up on anti- inflamation meds. Some people even get cortizone injections for the more severe cases. I have always been able to get through it by strenthening the area. Two exercises that worked for me have been rotating the forearm/wrist using a light weight and simply squeezing a tennis ball. You will need to endure some pain and soreness while doing the exercise but in my experience I have seen improvement within several weeks. Another benefit is that by strenthening the area, the problem is less likely to come back. Again, this is my experience and runs contrary to what most MDs would recommend. The glucosimine supplement is also a good idea. Also, might be a perfect application for the DMSO mentioned in an earlier post. -------------- GRS |

I've just recently been diagnosed with tennis elbow. It's been a very painful experience (just had a cortizone injection yesterday. My chiropractor has instructed me not to pick up any weights? It's been nearly 2 weeks since I've worked out and I am feeling very lethargic and wish I could return to the gym. According to the above posts, I feel that I may have to go against docs' orders and attempt a go with the weights again? Should I just go lighter than usual or lay off "arm" workouts entirely? Please advise.-------------- You only get ONE body, take care of it and it'll take care of YOU! |

I would just lay off I had it bad about a year ago and tried to "work thur it" and ended up making it worse and loosing more time off. So rest it and just take it easy.-------------- IF YOU CAN STILL ITCH YOUR NOSE AFTER ARM DAY, GO DO ANOTHER SET!!! |

I got golfer's elbow doing barbell curls 10 months ago. I've been resting it for 7 months. It just won't go away.
I'm interested to read (above) that getting into the gym and strengthening it may be the best way to heal it, but I'm afraid of doing more damage and setting myself back even longer. What's the final verdict, guys? |
