Dfly, don't read this sweetie.
Sorry to depress everybody. I posted the initial post as a commentary on the debate. This is the most civilized political discussion I've seen on politics anywhere on the net or TV. Ron I share your values and it isn't easy for me to vote for change.
In 1972 I went to Viet Nam on a destroyer that was commissioned in 1942. The gun system I worked on was designed to shoot down kamakazi planes from WWII.For you young'uns out there, jets WERE used in that war and not prop jobs. I voted for NIxon in '68 and 72 because he was going to end that war. I voted for Reagan because he vowed never to send American military people into harms way again without the best and most up to date equipment. Mutt that may be a good reason to dust off the old voter registration card.
Sorry I depressed you guys but like I said I value the opinions here. I thought this was a very civilized polite discussion and I appreciate hearing from you guys.
Thanks Cristal, I'm pretty much a moron but not enough of one to run for presifdent. Maybe if I could spell it huh.

Yep Charlie, I appreciate it. As I mentioned in another post, people get so worked up and volatile they lose the ability to listen and reason and have an intelligent discussion when it comes to politics.
I for one like to be informed on all issues, both sides, and make an intelligent choice for the good of my country and myself. Thanks Charlie for being so concise. I do appreciate some insight I may not be privvy to in my life circles.

Anni doesn't usually discuss politics because she honestly doesn't care for political confrontation or debate. However I will say this: I'm voting for Kerry because I need the stem cell research. Without stem cell research, the neurological disorder that has me WILL win. I want to be able to play with my new grandbaby like the other grandma's. Maybe stem cell research won't find a cure in time to keep me from becoming disabled, but if any of my children have inherited this, it might save them. So if you were looking for a reason to be involved, maybe now you have one.

I just wanted to make the point that Iraq, while terribly important, is not the only issue on the table. You may feel that your vote won't affect foreign policy, but it has the potential to make a huge, positive impact on a domestic level. If you can find even one issue that matters to you, please vote. Quiet people seldom make history.

Hec,
I see your view. Being a brother in arms I like my education being paid for if I decide to study a different degree. I like the ability to live off base and not have to pay out of my pocket and I also like having lower taxes on those poor wages. Also free medical is a benefit. But if the other guy gets in Granted we will be out of Iraq fast but our benefits to ourselves and for people like yourself who have a family will be severly degraded and taken away as Carter did and as Did Clinton. I don't want to most liberal of them all make our country a laughing stock to the world as the past leftist's did. I would rather be feared then laughed apon.

Though I usually stay out of discussions like this, I might as well jump in on this one.
I look at it like this: Protecting this country is the one of the main obligations of the federal government, and one of the few items actually laid out for the federal government and guaranteed to me as a US citizen by the Constitution. Not social security, not health care, not education – none of these. These arguments become purely academic and moot, for that matter, if it’s not safe for me to go out and conduct business in my own city and state, and the country is not secure from foreign invaders.
To me, this is the most important issue right now. Do I have other concerns? Of course. I love the tax cuts and initiatives given to small businesses. These last 7 months, people are spending more of their disposable cash (which is what my industry is based on), and I’ve been able to hire more employees, plus, focus on moving forward with the expansions for my company that I’ve been planning for several years. But all of these take a back seat to security. As Hobbes, Locke, Hamilton and numerous others believed, the federal government is created to secure a safe environment, which allows the free motion of personal choice and capitalism, based on the individual.
But, then again, this is just my opinion…
