Terms and definitions of the industry that I?m sick of hearing:

1. Tone-up: Most popularly (though not exclusively) used by women, this term usually describes some magical state of existence that all women who have never worked out want to attain. Allegedly, it has something to do with losing fat and building muscle, also known as exercise and diet. But they don?t want to admit that because they ?don?t want to look like a man.?

2. Bulking: Usually proclaimed by inexperienced males relatively new to resistance training to describe a phase of training dealing with adding additional muscle. However, most of them use it as an excuse to get fat. You can tell this is the fact when you ask one of them why their BF is around 40% and their training techniques suck, they?ll answer, ?I?m bulking.?

3. Vegetarian, Vegan, Meat-eater, etc.: Mysterious and special terms developed by people who want the best of not just both worlds, but three, and these terms have become increasingly popular recently. If you eat veggies and meat, or meat and veggies, or either-or? These terms tend to be used by individuals who don?t like the original, and more accurate, terms ? herbivore, omnivore, and carnivore.

4. Core: Incorrectly used to describe the abdominal section and surrounding areas (which is correctly described in the exercise science disciplines as the ?trunk?). However, this term has been corrupted by 2 a.m. Sunday morning infomercials that guarantee that obese individuals can get ?six-pack abs? in 4 weeks. Core training actually defines multi joint and compound exercises that should be the foundation, or ?core,? of a training regimen, such as the clean, snatch, squat, deadlift, etc. But, again, people are afraid of even talking about these lifts, let alone using them. See Term #1.
5. Sugar: Some evil chemical compound that has been given its own persona by the great uninformed, and has been blamed for every major disaster on this planet for the last 15 years, such as war, global warming, etc. Not to devastate some foundational sociological belief system (such as that the Earth revolves around the sun), but all carbohydrates are sugars, and all sugars are carbohydrates, whether mono~, di~, and polysaccharides. Whether oatmeal or Lucky Charms, all carbohydrates are ultimately broken down by the body into glucose to be used for energy. What makes one type of carbohydrate better than another is the rate at which this conversion takes place. And though it may be difficult to fathom, it doesn?t matter if they are simple, complex, low or high Glycemic, all carbohydrates/sugars have their place in a diet.

So are you saying I should stop my bulking phase and tone-up my core by becoming a vegetarian and stop eating sugar?

Sorry, I couldn't resist

I think core is over used....but if you read on elitefts....they do use the word "core" some. Meaning the muscle that stabilize the body in movement.

You meant it as core excercise.

It is not what "I" meant, but what has been used for the last 5 decades in exercise science. I could give a damn what definition elitefts uses, because my point is that now it is so completely OVER-used because of commercialism it's ridiculous, and that's not even being used the correct way.

I know what core excercises are....and I agree with the fact "core" is over used to sell crap, namely ab excercises.

I do think there is a "core" as in somthing that stablizes the body in compound movements....but it's not just the abs/trunk.
