Dang - I turned 46 in February and I swear something happened to my metabolism. My body fat seems to fall in my mid-section and belly and is staying there! I am doing more cardio than ever, but nothing is changing. So, alas, going to try doing less carbs and more protein. I can still fit..in a size 4 but hate the gutt region...ruins everything! Any suggestions...out there...go for it.

I have had that same issue. There was once a day when I could eat anything I wanted. But those days are over. I have to watch everything I eat, and I do a pretty good job. I cheat every now and again when I get a sweet tooth. It sucks, but, you gotta accept it. Candy is fer kids.-------------- \"If you do not understand, this is your fault, not ours.\" |

Well that just sux workingoutgirl. I hear you on the mid section woes. I have been having some problems with my midsection ever since I had my daughter - and now I find that I can bloat up in one sitting from zero to looking 4 months pregnant.
The semi good news is that by continuing my workouts and eating well I did reduce my bodyfat % (I can still bloat up, but avoid the foods that cause this). Do you also work out with weights before cardio? I think BB1fit pasted a very informative bit of info about cardio after weight training and how the glucogen stores are affected...boils down to more effective fat burning - although much better explained in that post than by my poor attempt here. |

Its like anything else. Things change and we adjust to a different midset/health style. Oh the good ole days :) I'd stay clear of lots of heavy carbs like the white flour version. Eat more veg's fish, chicken, turkey drink alot of water....and sugar dont even go there! Weight training is so key in keeping the tone and it would be well worth it to have that as part of the over-all healthy living. Its a combination of good eating, good workout, and rest. The days of bars, booze, big Macs (oh that makes me wanna go out tonight :) are still here if you watch your everyday and healthy lifestyle. 46 and size 4 isnt a bad deal so keep on adjusting......:dumbbell:

The best advice I have gotten here is to really clean up my eating and keep tweaking my plan, changing it a little as soon as I stop losing weight. Working with weights actually puts a couple pounds on me so I have cycle my workouts into a losing phase/gaining mass phase. The hardest thing to understand and believe was that I could be, and was, eating too little. As women we spend our whole lives thinking: eat less-lose weight. After years of strving myself my body had given up, around 40, on letting any of that fat go as it was afraid it was going to be deprived again. Once I started eating more and more often, the fat started coming off. Admittedly, around the middle and the hips is the last place to give it up, especially as women. Our bodies were created to store more fat there to protect and nurture a pregnancy. So we have to work harder than men to get rid of the fat. Big surprise, right? Just keep working at reducing your BF% a little at a time and putting on the muscle. I wish I could say there was a fast easy way, but dedication and persistence seem to be the answer. When you hit a wall, change things around and make sure you are eating 5-6 small healthy meals/snacks daily with plenty of hig quality protein, clean carbs and low (but not too low) good fats. Good luck, to all of us for that matter.:dumbbell:-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

Good post , Victoria!:)
Our metabolism do start decreasing after age 30, maybe even in our mid 20's if we aren't active. The best ways to combat this - build lean mass (muscle) it is hungrier than fat and will boost your metabolism. - eat 5-6 small meals a day - this has a metabolism boosting effect, also and ensures you have fuel coming in at constant intervals - a sign to your body that the food supply is abundant and there is no reason to store fat . - switch up your routine, and have fun doing it! take a new class or get a tae bo video, something you have never done before but that looks challenging. You can do this! There are some amazing women out there, competing in their 50's and 60's, looking better than most 20-30 year olds!!!! They don't have any magic secrets - they are just very consistent with their diet and exercise! -------------- \\"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. Guys, tattoo this on your biceps: Building muscle and might builds strong minds and character. Respect and humility come from lifting weights and feeding yourself with care. And from these distinguished qualities a great nation of people is built, by God. (Of course the God part is your choice, friend.)\\" Dave Draper |

Thanks for some of the upbeat messages. I'm trying but I don't think I'll ever go to a complete "clean" diet.....I'd get bored! Heck, when my fiance broke it off with me last yr (this time) I had no appetite and got down to 111. Loved it! Back in love - getting married..and now dang it..weigh 120.SUCKS being in love :o) - but I want to get this off where it goes...being short...the middle and my gutt! It's summer and I swear - not eating gets it off faster, I know not the best way...but I want to get it off fast....just need a good appetite suppressent and no...hydroxycut did not do much for me.
