Man... I've been at this fitness thing for a year... really, not a long time, but I have never experienced the shakes quite like this time...!
How do you make it stop or prevent it from happening? Is there something I should eat before hand or afterwards? Not necessarily a protien shake, maybe something food-wise? Yo Tim!
I get tremors really bad after doing legs. I've not found any food that helps me personally. I think it might just be something to do with workout stress and muscle physiology. I base this on a conversation I had with an Ear/Nose/Throat surgeon. He told me that he can't lift weights anymore because of the tremors he might experience afterwards (he's on call often, and can't risk an emergency surgery run right after lifting). Not a good idea to have muscle twitches during a delicate operation. He seems pretty passionate about missing his workouts from his younger days, so I guess that if there were a food or vitamin or some nutrient he could take to eliminate these tremors, he'd be all over it. That's sort of what I thought... did some new to me exercises last night, so my body might have been giving me hell.... hopefully it doesn't happen again!-------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." You say maybe you should eat before or after your workouts? Is this to mean you don't eat at either? I would imagine your glucose levels are drained if this is the case, and no wonder you have the shakes. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

I actually had some dinner about an hour before I worked out.... some chicken and pasta... waited about an hour and then off to it... a little while later I had some cottage cheese.. I guess that was about an hour and a half later...-------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." Why in the world would you not ever eat before a weight training session? Only under very specialized and rare circumstances would you ever want to do this.(that would be contest training, when you are at a very low bodyfat already and trying to tweak out a bit more, i.e...5% to 4% or less, and this would be with taking in tons of supplements pre workout for protection, like BCAA's and glutamine).-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

I did eat before the workout... that's the thing... had supper and then 45 minutes to an hour later did the workout... should I have had some more protien before the workout?-------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." No, if you ate what you said you should be fine as far as fuel, might try some slower burning carbs even, like brown rice, or even oatmeal.(I know it is evening, but you do what you have to do). Even so, pasta should be fine.
Otherwise, as TSM says, he makes good points. Especially on leg days. There is always the possiblilty of overtraining? Only you would know that. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

Thanks! I was doing some new exercises... and I always eat before I work out.. I'll have to monitor closely what I do before hand and keep an eye out for overtraining... Did I maybe wait too long to train, or not long enough?

This is coming from a trainer friend, so take it for what you will. I was told that bad shakes after a hard workout are cause when you train a muscle group too hard and you push your nerves in the struggle of the last reps. They are firing *pop pop pop* even after the work out because they are in a minor state of shock. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

You also might want to make sure that you warm up for a few minutes before doing your leg exercises...5 min on treadmill...and stretch, stretch, stretch. Make sure you stretch before, between sets, and after to help improve muscle relaxation, flexibility, and bloodflow. This may help with your shakes or increase global warming...I always get those two mixed up-------------- From Fat to Fab... -Derek- |
