the forrest and bonnar fight was the best fight ever seen in ufc history 15 minutes of stand up fighting doesnt get better than that

matt hughes on UFC with his submission move looked sick..he was on a guy's back choking him out while that guy was standing...causing him to tap out while he was still standing.........amazing....at 170lb very impressive

im considering doing submission grappeling. Ive done 4 different types of wrestling, so grappeling isn't that much different, just have to learn submissions and different possisions.

Im the UFC style champ in our wrestling room, but only because nobody else in the room knows anything and i have a nice guillatine. I used to do boxing, but broke my nose too many times, so I dont know if i could do UFC, but I would like to try grappling. Besides, i was a much better wrestler than i ever was boxer.

The 3 moves I was known for was the "ancle lock", the "constricture" and a kind of sleeper/ choke hold.......where its a half nelson, other arm under chin, hooked in other elbow, with my leg wrapped around their waist.

I know a bunch of moves, cuz i started training, but the only one im really good at is a guillitine. And i know the choke hold you mean, i've heard it called a hawaiin haii, and other things. Great choke, but it requires you to get on your opponents back which is tough. when i go to school this fall, i plan on joining a grappeling club and a brazilian jue jitsue club, because theres no wrestling at RIT.

you have to pay to get your ass kicked? Just be a bouncer and do it for free?

Swarm,
How does weight training for submission fighting differ from that of body building etc. Obviously want to be as strong as possible but as light as possible. Any advice.?

lol. Where's that guy that keeps posting about training for fighting should be all high rep. Was that you swarm? Who am I thinking ab?

Anyways... Depends on your style. I am a grappler and mostly concentrate on my wrestling and brazilian jui jitsu skills, so pulling is the most important. Pull ups and rows are the MMA's athletes bench press. I train using a modified westside split. try reading martin rooney's training for warriors book. lots of good info. Do you currently partake in MMA?

Any comments on UFC61? Justified to stop the fight or not.. I'm glad I did not pay to watch this, hardly entertaining.

Don't know how long this link will work (Shamrock vs Ortiz):

I don't think it was justified. The rule is you must attempt to protect yourself, and that if you can't even attempt to protect yourself then it's clear you won't be able to fight back and winning is out of the question. It certainly looked like he was trying...arms were up he just couldn't get them inside of the flying fists, other then that he kept a firm leg lock on Tito's waist the entire time...if he had gone limp then his legs would have dropped as well.

I kind of thought the bloodfest should have been called sooner, if anyone saw that one...the guy with a hole in his head was bleeding out all over the mat.

It looked like a good call to me. His arm was up, but he certainly wasn't trying to block with it.

Shame they took the video down.

I think the call was justified, but that doesn't mean I was happy with it.

Shamrock can take one hell of a beating, and probably could have recovered. He was standing up again before the ref was.

One a side note, I won my first fight by TKO (ref stoppage). I was mounted and looked for an armbar, but resorted to G&P. Three punches in, the ref dives in between us, pushing me off, and covering the other fighter. I had no idea what was going on! This was way back, and my first fight ever, so I didnt know whether to hit this guy jumping in (the ref), or what!
