Hey guy
I've been working my calf hard for a long time but that was not a gift in my body makeup; so I live with chicken legs
any words of wisdom

Stick with heavy, compound exercises: deep squats, calf raises, leg presses and leg curls. Also, if you build up your upper legs, your calves won't look as tiny.

Lunges really helped build huge thighs for me. Basketball takes care of the calves..

Did you want help with calves or overall thigh development?

For calves, you have to go as heavy as possible and get a full range of motion. That means that you must get a FULL stretch and a FULL 1-2 second squeeze at the top. What has worked well in the past is doing 2 exercise.. 4 sets of each.. 10-15 repetitions each.

Good Luck

I saw this MTV plastic surgery "special" where this guy got calf implants. Not saying that's a good thing to do or anything.

Vinni, you mentioned that you work your calves 3x per week and always to the point of failure, correct? Why don't you try to work them only once or twice per week and work to failure every other week. You could be overtraining them as they are affected when you do some normal leg exercises, too. Maybe that's why you are not seeing any results??

Just an observation...

To wake up your muscle fibres in your calves (and change exercise once in a while) try this very simple one: take some heavy dumbells and do some small jumps while standing on the top of your food of one leg.

Be ready thou 'cause this hurts.

i had similar problem as yours too, until i have changed my exercises. u see, i work as hard as you, heavy compound movements with maximum stretch. but the problem is, i cant get it to build. thus i have change my exercises. claf development requires repetition. previously, i go for 3 sets and 10 reps for each exercise. now i do it with 3 sets but with 15-20 reps. i know thisa might sounds weird but when u reach for the last few reps, you will be screaming cos your calves are burning like fire. try to use those weights that you can control and blast it with full intensity. it works

I was shown a trick that builds an awesome pump. Do a set of 15 seated calf raises at a lower weight for warm up. Load up the weight till you can do about 12-15 raises. Just as it really starts to cramp/burn (between the 12 and 15th rep if you have the right weight), bust out 3 extra “quick” reps (the burst…you should have a hard time doing this if done right). Complete 2 more sets like you just did.

Now, hobble off to the standing calf raise machine where you'll work one calf at a time for isolation. Do 3 regular sets of 12-15 reps on the standing calf raise machine (remember to work to failure and increase weight each set while shaving off a rep or two). You should get an awesome pump and burn with this technique.

Remember, only a 30-45 second rest between sets and 1-2 min when moving from exercise to exercise! Good luck!

try seated calf raises on the leg press but keep your legs strait as bent knee works the soleus. i packed on some nice rocks training with platform shoes(strength shoes) but be warned they are costly

I HAD the same problem until i tried the calf workout in "The Bodybuilding Truth" by Nelson Montana. I'm new to this site and dont know if i'm allowed to post what this routine consist of.You can look up the"bodybuilding truth" on any search engine. It is an ebook that cost $37.00 but it is well worth it. Contains numerous tips/info on building a great physique. Best of luck.
