I read a tip where u lift a weight bit heavier than u can bench press and hold it outstretched for about 10 sec...then rerack...rest 2-5 minutes and do regular heavy set...and it increases reps done by 1-2...worked for me...I usually lift weight about 50-100lb over what I could do..supposedly tricks the body into utilizing more muscle fibers..so weight on heavy set feels lighter...Does any1 know other effective techniques for this and other exercises?

Hmmm...interesting. I haven't tried it but I do know when I bench, my normal reps are 10-8-6-4-2-1 (1 rep being my max weight). After reading about burn outs the other day, I tried something new. Immediately following my normal sets, I went back down to my 8 rep weight and knocked out like 12, then my 10 rep weight about 15. Maybe someone with more experience could comment, because this was the first time I tried this.

bands help too, never heard of just holding heavy weights in lockout posistions, don't see how that engages muscle fibers.

it supposedly tricks yours muscles into thinking you're gonna lift heavier weight than you really are...making your lift more explosive...because you're recruiting mroe muscle fibers ..or so i read

ANother trick I read...which doesn't really seem all that great...is to pause and breath for 1 second between each rep...allowing to squat or what not more if you go beyond the first 20-30 seconds where you are using cardio systems...tho it seems like you're just using time to rest so i don't know...mens health suggested doing that and doing first 10 reps normal, then next 5 with 1 breath per rep...and then 2 breaths for next 5 for 20 reps,w ith weight u normalyl squat for 10 reps....dunno how truthful that was I never tried it...

no offense, but sleep 8+ hours, work out hard, and eat well are given...so it's not that clever to just say 'work hard'
because people work hard yet tend to plateau so if others know of tips, tricks, different techniques that could be helpful is very beneficial...By tips and tricks I mean perhaps certain exercise that people discovered worked really well in training a body part...tho it does include techniques and such as well...hope you understand what i mean

Check out the posts under speed bench, deadlifts: why we do them, and box squats with bands. I have posted plenty of tips there. I wish this forum had a little more organization. There are topics on lifts already started so what do we do? We start a new post instead of keeping it neat and tidy!

STatic contraction training,it allso helps stregthen lagaments and tissues associated with the bench press,good to use if you have had a shoulder injury,that hurts when doing a full repetion bench press,a good strength movement if you ask me guys.:dumbbell:

Perform an extremely hard balancing/reflex act just before you perform your exercise. Ex: Standing on an exercise ball for 10 to 30 seconds and then resting for 30 to 60 seconds, then performing a squat.
Make sure your tounge is in the physiological resting position...note where your tounge is after you swallow and you've found it.
