When you reach your desired goal, then keep your calories there for a bit and see what happens. If you continue to lose, then as agamble says, increase them by about 200 per day or so. When things level off, you have your maintenance calories and then you can just simply "maintain" with that amount of calories per day. This is key, finding where you are satisfied, if you want to just maintain a certain weight. Now you can juggle them, what you are striving for is an average daily intake per week to maintain. You are probably not going to eat the same thing every day, so you would for instance one day have 1900, calories, the next 1600, the next 2000, next 1500, etc., the average daily intake should come out per week to your desired amount, 1600 or whatever you find your maintenance level is. This also keeps a healthy, happy thyroid, and metabolism cranking not knowing what is next.
