I'm probably gonna cut my throat with this post but I gotta say this.
Since i've been on FT everytime there has been a post from some skinny guys asking how he can pack on size the same group of experts thell him just to eat more calories and eat more! I wanna disagree with these guys, The one thing I agree with is that you will gain weight when eating 5000 calories but there is 2 problems 1] You are gaining probably 80 percent fat with maybe 20 percent muscle, So that 3 pounds of solid weght you put on in a month may only be less than a pound of muscle, The major problem I have with gaining fat instead of muscle is 1] You can lose the weight you gained probably just as fast if not faster than you put it on 2] It's not healthy eating 5000 calories of junk just cause some guy told you to go eat, is NOT good for you 3]Umm wondering where your sixpack gon?? 2]You are bluffing yourself by living and eating unhealthy, not gaining the muscle you were looking for to start with it will cost you one hell of a lot of money eating between 4000-5000 calories a day. So here is my opinion gaining muscle for a skinny guy is tough believe me I know but I can honestly say that going from 65 kg to 75 kg in a year and a half and to still have a bodyfat of under 8 percent I didnt use fat to gain muscle. It's about eating calories YES!!! , How Much NO!!! Which calories you are eating YES!!! Now thats where the experts come in may I say to any skinny who wants to know how to bulk to next time direct his question in a WHAT TO EAT FORMAT, rather than how much. I could on the otherhand be terribly wrong and in that case I hope the moderators will remove this post as to not tarnish my reputation but please guys if i'm wrong let me know. To the pro's i'm definitly not saying you dont know what you are talking about I know for a fact you do, but just remember when a newbie asks a question on how to gain size, you might know that when you say just eat, you actually meant eat right, but how is a guy who just started training suppose to know that.:dumbbell:

Ok a few tips
1] Eat more But eat RIGHT 2]Eat at the right times for example your last meal should be just before bed. 3]Get a good multivitamin 4] Get enough sleep ypur body needs rest to grow 5] Cut down on cardio but don't lose it all, you still wanna look good don't you 6]Don't overtrain 7]Get a high carb adn high protein shake instead of pure protein, CARBS build muscle!! 8] Creatine is great for gaining wheight but sometimes it could be water so make sure! Any other tips would be appreciated. P.S Thanks to BB1 and wrestler for giving real advice, it's thanks to you guys that I can persue my dream of also becoming a trainer and that I could have results such as the ones above!

No one suggested they eat junk! Come on do some freaking homework your self. I have a HUGE problem with the new people coming on complaining they can not lose/gain weight and then ask us to give out a in depth training program and diet plan. Simply put if you are skinny finding it hard to gain eat more....-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! The Men and Boys are Separated by one thing: The Squat Cage! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Ok so if they can't do that the what is the use of FT if there is a new guy who wants to know stuff like that. This is where he does his homework, this is where he learns buy asking you guys, why are there threads like Begiiners training and Intermediate Bodybuilding when you only wanna talk to guys who already know everything.
Whats the use of FT if a new guy can't come here and ask for advice on how he should eat and how his program should look "Welcome to the ft Communities Message Boards - Forums! In this area, we encourage you to ask anything & everything which you have questions about; related to health & fitness. Below are the generalized categories where you may post your questions, please choose the category which best applies to your needs. We strongly encourage our knowledgable and experienced members to answer all the questions they feel comfortable with - be role models @ FreeTrainers.com!" That kinda says everything, No one is asking for an indepth diet program Do you see my second post thats called advice not just telling a guy to go and eat thats not advice!

I never said not to ask a question. BUT do some research here there is a search option at the bottom of each page. go to the nutrition boards read a little. We literaly get hundreds of post a month on this. BB I all the MOds all the long time members have posted more on why I am skinny I can not gain weight posts than I care to think about. All I said was to hlep your self out a bit. I know that a bunch of people do not even look at those types of posts anylonger cause all those people want is some one to take more time to plan out an exact diet plan with all the % for fats, carbs, proteins mapped out. THEN plan out an exact workout routine. This is a free site, but if any one wants that detailed plan set up IM I will send my price list for that.-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! Okay fair enough all I am saying is don't tell the guys who post wuestions like that just to eat more or that kinda thing, I see your point that you can't give everyone a detailed plan and I get that, but then rather tell the guy to go look for himself or get a personal trainer.
All I was saying in my original post is buy telling a newbie you should go eta whatever amount of calories is bs cause thats not how you should gain wheight.

Yes they should eat more. No one said 5000 calories. But weightlifters burn significantly more than your base 2000 calories. 2000 calories is cutting for me. I am taking in 3000 calories a day and not gaining weight. 90% of these skinny guys are not eating enough. I have heard many top strength coaches argue that most people aren't overtraining, they are undereating.
I understand what you are saying. Yes, they will gain fat. But these guys that are complaining about weighing, I believe the last one was just over 100 lbs, then they need to increase their calorie intake, and weightlift. That is the begining. Do not cut fat out. Fat is every bit as important. Most Americans get to many carbs. Believe it or not, Atkins had it right. He wasn't the first to say this. But think smart. I recently went out to a restaurant in Rochester (mutt, why would anyone eat a garbage plate?). For 50 cents more, you can get the low carb chicken wings. The difference? The low carb wings don't come with the carrot and celery sticks. Now do you think America is overweight as a result of an overabundance of carrots and celery???? People need to cut out the JUNK carbs. Processed sugar and candy. As for the carb and protein pwo shake, a 2-1 carb to protein ratio is most commonly effective. The reason? Insulin is one of your most anabolic hormones. Spiking it with a high carb shake will pull more protein into your muscles. However, spiking it 6-9 times a day, will not cause "spikes". Not every meal should be high carb. Confused? Then ask? I get PMs from people every week, asking about something I said. I will admit, I get a bit to into it sometimes. If you don't understand something I said, then PM me or post and ask. I agree that no advice is better than wrong advice. That is why after I am done, I am sending threatening letters to FitTV for putting on "the gym" (J/K). This is my advice. -------------- Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. I could get more advanced, and go into details over every one of your "points of advice". I could go into details you have no need for. I could tell you that you body handles carbs better earlier in the morning, and is carb intolerant when you are sleeping, and that is why while you should eat before bed, it should be a protein and fat meal, with cassein as the primary source of protein, not only because cassein is slower absorbed and anti-catabolic (no, not anabolic, there is a difference) but also because it won't spike your insulin and keep you awake, etc. I could give you 5 more reasons as to this, and 2 more reasons against it. BUT, when I posted the other day saying to eat and lift, the guy that asked how to gain weight, did not need to know this. These details are things that come with time. First, the poster eats more and weightlifts. Then, he learns more, and does compound movements, and a program more suited to his needs. Then he fixes nutrition. This lifestyle is progressive. Don't worry about what vitamin you are taking if you aren't eating properly. Basics first, the other stuff comes later.
The guy asking to gain weight doesn't need to know the advanced diet tips. Guy like me, bb1fit, and mutt do. and you know what, bb1 already knows this, and mutt can tell you how to find this information. That is why I posted what I did. Lift, eat, sleep, repeat. Basic yes, but it is effective. And its a start. The next part of that post should have been the original poster asking WHAT to eat and WHAT lifts to do. But most of these guys post once and never come back. wow that was a long post, but I hope you understand where I am coming from. -------------- Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. Eat more is the advice given because from experience people don't....some people also make the mistake they eat a lot based on stuffing themselves a couple times a day or maybe even just a few times a week and then eating bit here and there...or going whole day without eating....then scratching their heads as to why they are still skinny...
I was 70lb thinner....then i found out the magic of eating more calories...I eat probably 3.5-4,000 calories as maintenance...... I don't even see the use telling people the specfics....initially 99% of people will drop out after couple months tops...and revert to their crappy lifestyles...so what is the use of telling them.....yes we can break it down for them, and tell them exact foods to eat or to avoid....the macronutrient breakdown...and so forth....how many people i wonder even bother to eat 4-5 meals daily that ask for this advice after hearing it....my guess is under 5%........ I think i should revise my post and say the first and last thing that they need to do is CONSISTANCY....the rest is just a matter of time....if I see someone coming back and genuinely interested in changing their life then I try to respond with lengthier posts but many people don't even come back....

============ Quoting from wrestler125: , but I hope you understand where I am coming from. Yeah I do and like you siad you can tell me all kinda things about my pointers things I don't know and thats why you guys are the experts on this site. I see your point on how many of these guys never come back and it's cause they can't pull through. I did'nt mean to upset anyone with this post, but I see your point now and all I still want to add is there are people who take it a bit more seriously for example I am past that beginner stage where you just wanna put on weight I wanna gain size in the right places without looking fat or losing my tone that kinda thing but I hope that everyone who sees this post and who feels like me know that there are guys who we can now IM and ask these questions! Thats all I wanted to achieve, Thanks guys!! ============= |
