toning up and losing the love handles

I am totally new to working out and have been thinking about transforming my body for a while but, have only recently decided to be proactive. I am pretty active. I snowboard, surf, hike and swim. I tend to eat what I think is well but, I do eat whatever I want. I just want a basic plan that will give me an idea of what to eat and what exersize to do to get rid of the chub. my belly and my love handles are the main concern, maybe the thigh as well. Any help you can offer would be AWESOME!
