The answer is getting to find the diet who works for YOU!!!
You got enough time and you really want to stay slim (and fit!!) all your life? Okey, then TRY different diets and see how your body reacts.....

Philia is right. Different things work for different people. I have seen some pretty good results with most all of the above, but one thing seems to be key. Will it last? The only tried and true method that will last is proper nutrition with a good exercise program. You can diet all you want, but with out exercise, weights to be exact, your "shape" will not change. You will be a smaller version of what you start at, with a higher fat to muscle ratio. YOu want a better muscle to fat ratio, I.E., more solid, plus you will burn more fat over the long haul due to muscle mass is what runs your metabolic furnace, even at rest. Plus you can shape your body with weights, think of it as clay. The proper diet is about a 40/40/20 ratio I believe for normal gains. The 20 should be quality fats, like flaxseed oil, olive oil, etc. Hope this helps some. Very technical topic really.

It depends (like the others say) on your body, and also your fitness goals. Are you looking to lose a lot of weight? Are you looking to gain weight? Maintain? Build muscle? Lose fat? It really all depends. I personally go with a 40-30-30 break down, but a lot of people I know do a lot of different things and each have had their own measure of success.
