I take a multivitamin regularly, and it has 100% of your daily iron needs. But I also eat Total Protein cereal which also has 100% of daily iron needs. Is this too much iron? Will it harm me in any way if I continue this?

By the way the multivitamin is Centrums performance.

Thanks for your posts.

Men do not need "extra" iron. I would always buy my vitamins without iron.

Most men have a problem with too much iron because iron is not readily excreted through the body's usual excretory routes of urine, bile and sweat; rather, the primary way in which iron is lost is through the shedding of cells from the skin or gastrointestinal tract or through blood loss, as in menstrual blood loss or chronic or acute hemorrhage.

Women on the other hand need more iron due to menstral cycles.

Remember, Iron is nature’s rusting agent, and excess levels of iron in our bodies is one of the most potent ways that our body becomes oxidized, or prematurely aged.

You couls laso drink tea with your cereal or multivits - the tannins in tea bind to iron and inhibit absorption

ok thanks guys. Would green tea work well with this? I like green tea. I use celestial seasonings or something like that. It's like a blueberry mint flavor. Will this have the same benifits as regular green tea?

I don't know if green tea has tannins in it, I've only heard of standard tea being used....BB1?

Green tea has a pale yellow color and less complex taste because of a relative absence of tannins. Black tea is at the other extreme, with a much darker color and fuller taste. Oolong tea falls somewhere in between.

cheers, I knew that you'd know the answer

It's a bit academic really - it's probably easier just to get multivits without the iron in them :)
