Curious. I'm on this eating plan where I eat 5 times/day. I have protein at every meal. Of course, every meal is balanced with carbs and fat. But I was at the gym yesterday and was reading an article on nutrition. It said to have protein only 2 times/day. I feel really good on this mealplan, but don't wanna mess with anything..........am I consuming too much protein???

Don't believe all you read. Stay with your protein. Protein is themal in nature, that is it takes come calories to digest it(break down the amino acids), thus "heat" producing. Protein is only 52% or so likely to be converted to glycogen, whereas carbs are 100% likely 100% of the time. (other than fibrous veggies). And fats almost no chance, I believe it is 10%.

Hey bb1? I heard from someone who was on the Atkins diet a while ago that they have you eat mostly meat because if you eat too much it will leave your body ... other things like carbs and fats will stay 'till you work them off or something like that. Is that true? That if you eat too much meat it's ok 'cause it'll disgard itself?

SandyQ I wish I had your problem. hehhee I always end up eating too many carbs. ;) Maybe I should start eating meat every meal no matter what. Just seems like SO MUCH food when you follow these diets. heheh

It is much better to err on the high side of protein than not enough. Any excess will more than likely as in the %'s I stated above be expelled from the body. Your info is mostly right, carbs and fats will most definitely stay with you. When glycogen stores are full and maintenance calories are reached, guess what excess carbs do? (other than fibrous veggies and green leafy). They are converted to glycogen and stored as you know what!! Fats can actually aid you in your fat loss. EFA's help metabolize fat believe it or not, and lower insulin sensitivity, which in turn reduces your amount of fat storage.

If you have healthy kidneys, high calcium intake, not too much saturated fat in your diet, and drink enough fluids, you should be good.

Hello! I've been a lurker for quite some time. My name is Kathie. I recently got back into training and even hired a personal trainer at the gym I attend. So far, I'm on the right track and I feel great! =) So, why am I posting? My nutrition plan is consisting of eating 5x a day. As stated above, each meal has a protien source as well as a vegetable and 'once a day' i have a carb (ie brown rice). I've been on this for two weeks so far and feel great progress. HOWEVER, and i'm about to get really personal here *blushes*, this high protien diet has my stomach in knots!!!!!! Needless to say, I'm very gassy, bloaded, and well, it's just very embarrasing!!! Is this normal? Does it stop? Is there any way to make it stop? I haven't slept well in two nights because of this. I am also about to stop this nutrition plan because of it. I do not want to at all for fear my training will not get the results I am looking for (ie tone but with a lot more definition) due to not eating properly. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would stick with the diet for a while. It will take you body a while to adjust to its new diet. It will get better with time.
