According to my nutritional plan on this website I should be eating about 250 grams of protein per day? That's outragous. If a chicken breast has 25 grams of protein in it I'm supposed to be eating 10 of these a day? Who do they think I am? Lenox Lewis? Obviously you would mix it up but this just seams way out of whack. I know some joker is gonna come on here and tell me this is right but unless you are a proffesional athlete or competitive body builder I don't think so.

LOL 25 grams? try like more like 35-40 grams for a boneless skinless 6 ox breast. 250g may be a bit high but with out really trying I eat 200g a day easy. Remeber if you want have a can of tuna (about 25 grams) add in 2 ox fat reduced cheese (about 19 g) drink one cup skimm milk (8g) =52 grams in one meal. so IT can be done-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! Dude, relax a little.
For someone who is active in the gym, a good rule of thumb is 1g of protein per pound of body weight. I know of competitive athletes that hit 2g. It all depends on what you're doing. -------------- Michael Powerlifters - We eat raw meat, and sleep naked in the snow... |

Ok well everyone is different, you two look like you want to get huge. My goals are a little different. I just get skeptical when I see these super high protein recomendations. Because who is ushually spouting this stuff? Bodybuilding magazines and I wouldn't be suprised if weider and gnc and whoever else that makes all kinds of proteins and supplements doesn't have some type of interest in these magazines. Thats why I was shocked to see this site recommends so much, but I guess who knows who owns this place?

J - Rev gave the correct info of trying to eat at least 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight. That amt is not for someone trying to get huge (and Rev and Mutt are already huge (i mean that in a good way)). It may seem like alot at first but it will come. Well, one nice thing if you think about it instead of using preconcieved notions is if you are eating that much protein, chances are you are eating alot less of some other "bad" things. This by default is not a bad idea. It has been shown, I have made numerous posts of studies that show high protein diets do indeed work for getting lean. -------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

I don't see anything wrong with eating a lot of protein and I think in order to get big you'd need to do some serious weight lifting as well. Protein alone won't make you big. Please guys correct me if I'm wrong. And like bb1 said, chances are you are eating alot less of some other "bad" things. Protein keeps you full longer therefore you're less likely to snack. The magazines are pushing the supplements, this site is mostly talking about real foods.-------------- "One Ring to rule them all; One Ring to find them; One Ring to bring them all, and in the Darkness bind them." -LOTR Trilogy |

I have a problem! As a 185 lb male, I've read about suggested p/c/f ratios like 50/20/30 and 40/40/20. And as a moderately active male, I'm supposed to get about 2900 cals to maintain my weight.
Here's the contradiction: 1 gram of portein per pound of bodyweight is often suggested, which for me is 185 grams of protein, or 740 cals and only 25.5% of 2900 cals! Now to get 50%, I'd need to eat 362.5 grams of protein a day, which is about 2 grams of protein per pound. This is outrageous! Can someone please elaborate on an acceptable level or protein and maybe a better ratio? Thanks! |

It is recommended that you get AT LEAST 1g per lb of bodyweight. I usually try to get approx 40-45% of my calories from portein

If your macros you choose are 50/20/30, p/c/f, then by all means you should get 2 gr. per lb. of bodyweight to meet your calorie macros. What is wrong with that? Eating that much protein will surely keep you from eating other crap. However, if you are bulking, I would suggest more like the 40/40/20 macros, but this depends on your carb tolerance. Remember, carbs are protein sparing, so you will need less.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

Just an afterthought to your post adleman, to the uninitiated to the bodybuilding world, this may seem like a ton of protein. And it may well be, but it is a norm in these circles. In fact, a 50/20/30 p/c/f diet is an excellent fat burning diet macro amount.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |
