Hey... I recently went on a diet/program to increase mass and gain strength. I've been doing this with the help of creatine but I noticed a problem. I have gained about 10 pounds, 170-180, and I have been able to increase my strength. The only complaint I have is I believe I have more body fat than I started with. Any suggestions to losing the extra gained fat while still retaining the muscle I've gained? What would you do in my situation (continue gaining or lay off a little and return to definition)?

You need to decide if you want to continue to bulk/put on more muscle mass or to cut. You need to determinate your goals (competition, vacation...) Do you do some cardio?

It also depends on how much total mass you're hoping to put on. If you've put on 10 lbs, and weren't putting on ANY muscle you'd have put on 10 lbs of fat at the most, which isn't likely. I started a slow bulk almost a year and a half ago and really had to do some diet juggling the first 3 or 4 months till it finally sunk in that I had to make small adjustments. The creatine (in my case) will account for a quick 3-6 pound gain but that's mostly water weight. In the same situation, I'd either do a little more cardio or add a couple of circuit training sessions a week. 10 lbs can be adjusted fairly easy if you aren't in a hurry.

Your type of diet while gaining will largely determine the amount of muscle or fat you put on. If you are eating anything in site just to "bulk", then this is what you will do most probably, "bulk" rather than build muscle. Sure, more scale weight will of course make you stonger. Do not look so much to see the scale go up, go by your look and clothes feel. You need to be the judge. If you see what you think is too much fat, go on a 2 week or so "leaning out" period to keep things from getting too far out of hand. Then go back to gaining when you are satisfied. Hope this helps. Learn your body.
