I suffered a third degree ankle sprain and will be in a cast for 4-6 weeks, followed by another period of time in a brace. With an injury like this should I shut down my training until my cast comes off, or should I try to continue doing some upper body stuff? The injury makes going to my gym difficult and I have very little in the way of home equipment. I was thinking of buying a couple of dumbbells or something to do some light lifting at home. Also, with my inactivity should I simply cut my calories and carb intake from what I was at? Any insight on my problem would be appreciated.

Ask the doctor about doing upper body work - some injuries are aggravated by the rise in blood pressure due to training.
If you can't get to the gym resistance bands are a cheap option for working out at home and they are very versatile.

I would think cutting your calories by around 200 would be a good idea.
