Triceps Cable Pushdowns Substitution

I don't have access to a gym or the equipment for this exercise. Is this a suitable substitute:

Laying down with and pulling a barbell (EZ Curl) over my head to a vertical postition?

Seek and ye shall find... dunno who said it, but he was smart.. anyhoo.. after I posted, I found a partial answer to my question... the Lying Tricep Extension... is it a suitable subsitute for the Tricep Cable Pulldown?

Yep , as well as dips behind the back, bent rows, chins,1 arm row etc

Uh Old man! Chins, bent rows and 1 arm row are all back exerise not tricep. One exercise is called the kickback does a great job you use a dumbbell (not charlie) and kick it back.

Dips between 2 benches or chairs is probably the best mass builder, followed closely by the tricep extensions. You can add weight to the dips by placing a dumbbell or weight plate on your lap. Go deep, and have all other muscles relaxed, so you feel as if your triceps are the only muscle available to push yourself back up with. You have to build a rock before you can sculpt it.

Which would be the better of the two to start with? I guess which would be better to warm up with, the dips or the extensions?

I was doing dips but switched to a couple of different tricep exercises...

The dips give me a better burn and punp the heck out of my tri's.

I always prefer to do mass or compound exercises first, as agambles says, dips would be good. Again, you have to build a rock to carve it. Dips, french curls, a couple of heavy mass exercises such as those two, then go to extensions, etc. Keep changing things up. One of my favorite tricep mass exercises is decline close grips. They are great, more range of movement than standard flat bench close grip. Do them on the smith machine and pile on the weight, you have a built in spotter.

Love them close grip declines...I superset these with regular bench when working chest and tris on the same day. Then, I finish off with dips and pushups (superset) to eek out some more reps. before collapsing in exhaustion.
