Ok ladies. I'm due to see my Ob-Gyn in a month or so but my husband has got me concerned...
We have been talking that maybe within a year we would start trying to get pregnant. However, a lady friend of his told him that before we try, I should have a DNC to keep from having a tubal pregnancy. I've never heard of this before in my life (the concept of getting cleaning out to keep from having a tubal pregnancy. I HAVE heard of a DNC and a tubal pregnancy). Also, I have been on birth control pills for almost 10 years because I used to very easily get ovarian cysts and the pill helps to control that. I am a little afraid that the second I am off the pill I will get a cyst (which has happened in the past).
Is there anyone out there with similar experience or knowledge in this area that could fill me in?

shakkai - I had a tubal pregancy once (they are also called ectopic) and they are supposedly quite rare. I have never heard about having a DNC to reduce your chances of this happening - but I am not a physician so I cannot tell you 100% that this is wrong. I would strongly suggest talking to your doctor about your concerns - and start taking folic acid at least 3 months before you plan to conceive. And good luck to you on starting your family :)

Im no doctor but I am a mother. THat procedure sounds as if it would be for high risk people only, with a prior tubal pregnancy on their charts.
I too have been on the pill for ages, and I too have had cysts on my ovaries. Yet, I have 3 children with no problem and no DNC. If anything, getting off the pill and trying to get pregnant immediately, the only thing it did to me was give me TWINS.
And I have finally gotton off the pill as of the last 5 months and haven't had any problems with the cysts as in the past, so maybe the cyst thing is just a age thing?? Im 30 now, so who knows.
I think I'd just ask your doc when you go in.

Thanks girls, I appreciate it. Parko, your share is particularly relieving in that I don't want to be going on and off of the pill for the rest of eternity. :laugh: Maybe I can have twins someday!!!!!! :big_smile:

Yeah, we figured after the twins and having three girls total I give up on the boy. Got him "snipped" It does feel good to finally be off the pill for good. Was on from 16 to age 30 minus two pregnancies.
No more babies for us but good luck on your journey. I was actually told that the twins was because of the pill, being on for so long and tying to get pregnant immediately off. I've also heard that, that is why there are more twins today than years ago. Because of the pill and it's effects on hormones or something. I never thought about twins nor wanted them until, I was told "there is two babies in there"....They're 7 now and it's been one hell of a ride.
