Well, I’m not 40 yet, but the countdown has begun (4-Mar-07 is the big date). My question has to do with physicals. I haven’t had a complete physical since I entered the military 20+ yrs. ago. Funny thing is that I almost passed out when they drew the blood, something they called a vasovagal (sp?) reaction. Anyways, I remember reading somewhere that beginning around 40 yrs. old you should get a physical every couple of years, so I figured why not get a head start. So as far as the blood workup goes, does anybody have any suggested tests that I should ask to have done? I was thinking at a minimum having test levels, cholesterol, sugar (diabetes runs in the family), possibly kidney & liver function, but I’m not sure what else. Thanks for the input.

The phyisical should actualy be done every year. The docs have a regular routine blood testing, unless they suspect something from what you tell them (ailments etc). Otherwise they add in the PSA test at 50. -------------- Thinking of a new signature line. Ivan Montreal Canada (City of Festivals) |

I guess that would be a wise thing Charlie! Thanks Caravan. Is the PSA test the prostate cancer test?

Had a physical today, actually. First one in about six years.
I was told the same thing about the prostate test, usually starts around 50 unless I want it sooner. I think that'll be a nice 40th birthday gift to myself. Should be interesting in one year. -------------- I am training for birthdays. Be here. Live. Love. Hope. Now. Faith. Believe. ============ Quoting from typ: Is the PSA test the prostate cancer test? Yes, Prostate Specifac Antigen which is protein producrd by the cells of the prostate. The blood test detects inflamation, infection, or cancer. Unfortunately they still have to use the digital along with it. Tim, they can only do it on men 50 yrs and older. Just make sure when they do that digital the doc doesn't rest his hands on your shoulders during the test! Ask Charlie!! ============= -------------- Thinking of a new signature line. OK, now I'm getting nervous! My doc is about 6'3" & 240. I never really took notice to the size of his hands, but I can't imagine they are small. :surprised: Wonder if it's too late to change docs?

I know this is an old thread but seeing you are all making fun of prostate exams you should go to youtube.com and watch family Guy with Peter Griffen getting the exam done. It is very funny.
