ok now by common sense i know you have to do the same what you do to one side as you do with the other

with the twisting crunches it never says anything about alternating sides, i currently do 3 sets of 15 reps for each way my elbow points towards my knees

i do all three sets on one side then 3 sets on my other side, by side i mean like i twist my body and left elbow towards my left knee then do three sets with my right elbow towards my right knee

is this making sense?

Do you mean left elbow to right knee and right elbow to left knee? Or is that your question?

Make one "rep" fully twisted from one to side to fully twisted to the other side.

for a twisting crunch twist as you crunch up and go same side elbow to same side knee. I do a variation of the twisting crunch, bicycle crunches, in which I go to the opposite knee but i dont't have to travel as far because my feet are not on the ground.

ok i looked at the picture and it looks as if i should be twisting to both knees BUT bb1fit im not sure i undertsnad your directions

as i look at the picture for the exercise it looks as if he is just twisting to the same side for 15 reps

http://www.freetrainers.com/FT/jsp/ExerciseDescription.jsp?e_name=Twisting_Crunches

does doing that only work one side? or is it working the entire ab area as a regular crunch does?

and upatrail i don't mean left elbow to right knee etc.. im sorry if im confusing everyone

cruelio, no need for the cat calling. A person has a question to ask to assist him in doing the exercise correctly. Therefore it does not make him an idiot. It makes him smart in order to perform correctly the exercise routine. Those who have a hard time asking questions are the ones that defeat themselfs. An those who must question others abilities to seek information less knowledgable.

Also Cruelio the inproper use of YOUR instead of YOU'RE could imply a few things about yourself too.

I don't think touching the same side elbow to the same side knee is considered a 'twisting' crunch. You have to cross your elbow over your body to the opposite side, and then do the same thing with the other elbow. This is a complete rep, once you have gone right elbow to left knee and left elbow to right knee. Does that help?

good one, maria....

that does help alot azrehead
but i was going by the directions that it says on my FT exercise which is as follows

"Explanation: Lie flat on the ground with your knees slightly bent at a 90 degree angle, and your feet flat on the ground. Place your hands across your shoulders or behind your neck. Be sure to not pull on the back of your head in such a position. Curl your trunk upward towards your knees twisting your at your waist as you go up. Point your elbow towards the same side knee. Do not simply lean forward; arc your body up with your waist, not your head. Your upper back and shoulders should come off the floor. Once you are at the top, squeeze and contract your abdominal muscles hard. Slowly roll back to the starting position where your abdominals are fully relaxed. Repeat the movement."

thats why it was confusing me, the picture and directions say one thing and everyone on the boards say the opposite which i will stick with

your explanation is very helpful though and i will stick with that

and thanks starbell maria and azredhead on being nice and helpful i didn't want to seem stupid or anything i just want to make sure i use proper form and do these things right
thanks for the time

Yeah, that explanation doesn't sound right to me. At least not for a twisting crunch. George or Adrian, are we right?
