I'm on Day 5 of The Ultimate New York Body Plan. Has anyone been on this 14 day "adventure"?
The rules & regs are NO A, B, C, D, E, or F's: (NO alcohol, bread or even whole wheat products), starchy Carbs, Dairy, Extra Sweets (sugar substitutes, high fructose corn syrup & all sources of sugar), Fruit nor Fats and the kicker NO coffee for 14 days ..yes one can actually survive and FEEL AMAZING without starting their day with a cup of joe! You eat 5 clean meals/snacks per day. Do his planned cardio sculpting routine 4 days per week & butts/lower or abs/core back the other 3 days as well as, an additional 45 minutes of cardio EVERY DAY. I've already noticed a difference in my body composition. I'm 5 ft 5 inches, currently @ 17% body fat right now, 133#'s. My goal is to lose inches not too concerned about the scale if I gain muscle/lose BF (my abs & lower body are my trouble areas.) This is a 14 day INTENSE program that you follow up with 2 week increments of maintance phases for a month afterward, slowly incorporating ONE serving of the forbidden foods back into your diet & decreasing the intense workouts to 3x per week + 1 day of cardio session. David Kirsch is the one who wrote out the plan/book. Just wanted to share it since I think it's great for breaking through plateau's. I've been working out for 10 years and always seem to get stuck in a rut. This gets you out of the rut! Definitely NOT for beginners, but for those who may want to dig down deep & feel energized it's been a rewarding/challenging program thus far. Life without "additives" is TOTALLY amazing & it's only my 5th day into it. Will keep you all posted as I continue on. Any comments/questions feel free... -------------- You only get ONE body, take care of it and it'll take care of YOU! |

Please keep us posted, curiuos to know how you feel after day 14, and the physical changes too.
If I understand correctly, you are allowed to consume complex carbs right? Good luck with it. -------------- Scales are for dead weight: We are not dead yet! Still trying to find out how to do the Hollywood Free Press. Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Carivan: Pleeeeease send the VEGGIES! Ohio & winter don't make for a wide selection to choose from.
Kakaroto: Yes, it's been "challenging" to eliminate all other carbs, sugar & especially the morning cup of coffee. The 1st day it felt like I had a terrible hangover, very fatigued withdraw symptoms from no coffee or sugar substitues, etc., By mid way thru day 2 it hit me...I felt GREAT & it's just intensified from there. The pay off has been that you feel so energized & detoxed from only putting natural substances & no sugar in your body that keeps your focus on the program. The recipes in his book are fantastic..very flavorful! -------------- You only get ONE body, take care of it and it'll take care of YOU! |

Hmm, I may have to rethink the veggie order. :)
It's day 9...it's been a tough battle to fight off the urges for simple carbs/sugars. The workouts are grueling, 4 days out of the week it's an 1 1/2 cardio sculpting routine plus an additional straight cardio session in the afternoon @ 4pm, the other days it's an ab/core routine or legs/lower body....but I have noticed a difference in the way my clothes fit. I can't wait to find out my actual BF% results when this portion of the program is over. -------------- You only get ONE body, take care of it and it'll take care of YOU! |

Did you get this plan out of Fitness RX magazine? I was reading that, and thought about trying it too. My goals are similar to yours, not too worried about the scale. The only thing is, I'll do this program for 14 days, then go back t my normal diet and cancel out everything ive done. Please let me know what your final results are...

That is why I do not like these "programs" diets. The moment I introduce the "forbidden" foods again I gain it all back quickly. And I do not eat a lot of junk. But who is gonna go through life without a piece of bread or even occasional pasta and fruit is good for you. The reason why these things work is because you are severely limited in food groups and therefore calories. I found in my personal experience the initial energy and good feeling do not last. Without complex carbs I hit the wall fast in training. I eat clean from good food groups in small portions often. I time my carbs to earlier in the day. Good luck. I just found it all too disappointing to get results and then lose them so quickly the moment I eat "normal" again. I feel I gotta find a lifestyle change that works eating good clean foods and the occasional cheat days to keep me sane.

To answer your questions: lindsay, it's a book by David Kirsch called the Ultimate New York Body Plan. It's day 11 for me, & it's been a complete overhaul as to how one looks at food. The results have been incredible, I've lost inches & firmed up...results that typically in the past took me 1-2 months have been accomplished in these past 11 days (I'm not done with the 1st 14 day portion yet.)
Ricky, with regards to this just being a "program" let me ensure you that it is not just a fad diet, so to speak. It really does re-train your brain to understand how to eat completely naturally & clean. Yes the first 2 weeks you are very restricted by the A,B,C,D, E and F rules, but this is essentially a detoxification process that I believe we should all undergo periodically. Your body learns to live without caffiene & simple sugars, & most of all any "preserved" foods. I've never realized how horrible I felt until I've let go of just my 2 cups of usual morning coffee, cream & Splenda. Not to mention that all the dairy (cottage cheese & low fat cheeses) really wreeked havoc on me internally...I've been eating clean for years now, or so I thought. This has changed my life, and I truly mean that. With the reintroduction of foods back into your diet, you simply begin to create balance & learn not to overindulge. The next 2 week phase after this is reintroducing ONE serving of the A, B, C, D, E, or F per day back into your diet to see how your body responds. You are then also permitted ONE cheat MEAL per week. Your workouts are no longer 2x per day, but are 5 days per week instead of 7 days. This has been the most motivational way of life I've ever been exposed to, and let me say I've been working out & going at the nutritional battle for the past 10 years of my life. I think this book is a great tool for anyone who may want a jump start, or is in a plateau stage of weight loss. We are human, we want to see results pay off quickly for all our hard work and this book/new way of life does just that. Having said that, it's not a quick fix, but because the results are so immediate it really does give you the motivation and inspiration to want to stick with it & give it 100% above & beyond the initial 14 days. -------------- You only get ONE body, take care of it and it'll take care of YOU! |

I would be concerned about not being able to eat any fruits or vegetables... Having a lower body fat percentage does not necessarily produce health. Yes, it is important not to have excess fat, but if decreasing size is the only goal that does not necessarily produce optimal health.

Sivysisy, you eat LOADS of veggies...just not fruits for the 1st 14 days & it's all lean proteins: fish, chicken & all veggies..that's the simplisity of the plan...all natural clean eating.
I've snuck & done my measurements (just my abs & hips so far) lost an inch in my waist & 3/4 inch through my hips. I'm waiting until day 14 to do the complete measurements. But my arms & chest have definitely gotten chiseled. Will keep you posted! -------------- You only get ONE body, take care of it and it'll take care of YOU! |

To make any "headlines" these days, a diet plan of any kind has to have some kind of "gimmick" to make it different. In reality, this plan is no different than many other diet plans, just presenting itself in a different way. Remember, no matter what the name of the diet, in the end what it does is produce a caloric deficit in some manner by restricting intake of some foods.
Basically what you are describing is a simple keto type diet. Nothing new here, just a different name. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Nope, not at all. I was merely mentioning it is but another variation of a common theme.
One thing to be aware of on these type carb limiting diets is carb intolerance. That is, you will most definitely lose weight, but if you go back to normal carb eating(which you can never do by the way), you may find you put on weight very, very fast. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

You can find it via David Kirsch's site or on amazon.com
BBFit is correct with saying that it does make you quite carb sensitive once the 14 days is over with. HOWEVER, the point is that you can't simply go back to eating whatever you wish after the 2 weeks is over with. I found that if you implement one serving of simple carbs each day (100grams) then do a standard cycling of a hi carb day every 4 days as a refeed to trick your metabolism you can LIVE with this way of being. This program is a great MOTIVATING TOOL (the 2 week program) for those that are impatient for results. As long as they understand those results still need a maintenance level diet to keep them in check. Quoting from festivef: :)This diet sounds very interesting! Where did you find the book?
