Hello everyone! This is my first post so here goes.
I have been working out for about 2 years now (off and on). This time, I have been on for around 5 weeks. I weigh about 205-210 right now, and I'm currently taking N-large once a day after a workout to help me reach around 230. I seem to have very little strength and endurance. I get real tired real quick and I find it hard sometimes to push very heavy weights or even finish my last couple reps in an 8-rep set (Today was funny though; I felt I had all the energy in the world). Anyhow, I just purchased 500g of Ultimate Nutrition Creapure (recommended from a friend) and was wondering when's the best time to take it. I usually work out 4-5 times a week around 7-8AM. Any comments would help! Andre |

I would strongly look at your diet, as well as your rest schedule. Often, these are the major culprits to your type of problem. The creatine can help, but only after these two are in order... -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

rev8ball,
I sleep around 7-8 hours a night. My diet consists of: Cereal, milk, juice, bread, fruit, eggs, tuna, protein shakes, bagels, water, chicken, steak, potatoes and vegetables. Should I try taking the creatine 20-30 mins before my workout? |

Maybe you are depressed. Perhaps a visit to a shrink will get you fixed up with some Prozac, etc. My friend's wife didn't know how depressed she was until she went. Now, after being on meds for a few months her energy level has skyrocketed.-------------- . . . to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women . . . |

In a quick fix, drug dependant society, I really think going to a shrink to get some prozac really isn't the best solution or advice. We all want to blame something or somebody for anything bad that ever happens. In engineers case, I can almost guarantee you that there is something missing from his diet. Specifically around the times of pre and post workout. I see this all the time at work, and I always ask how peoples nutrition is. Guess what? They look at me like I just grew an extra eye out of my head. Meal timing is key and eating healthy, balanced meals every 2 to 3 hours has to happen in order to maximize any gains in the gym. Engineer, how many times per day do you eat? What do you eat before your workouts? After? How much protein are you consuming?Fat?Carbs? What kinds? You see, there's a lot more to it than visiting a "shrink" and getting some meds for an otherwise simple problem.

dahayz,
I eat just like you said every 3 hours. Usually I eat 5 times a day. Here's what a typical day looks like. 7AM - cereal, bread, 3 egg whites, and fruit. (600 cal, 30g protein, ?? carbs 7:30-8:30 - workout, drinking a 32oz bottle of gatorade during that hour. 9:00 - protein shake and a bagel (550 calories, 35g protein, 90g carbs) 12:00 - tuna sandwich and juice 3:00 - snack 6:00 - chicken, rice, milk 9:00 snack 10-6 - sleep Any suggestions besides seeing a shrink? I am a very happy person and am not depressed in any way. |

Without knowing your goals or intensity, I'll say this: if you are pushing yourself decently hard in the gym, then that menu is not near enough food, especially if your goal is to gain size and strength.
Give us some ideas on your set goals (i.e., gain 10 lbs in 6 months; add 50 lbs to my bench in 6 weeks, etc...), and I'm sure we can help out. -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

Well I'd like to gain about 15 pounds so I can weigh around 225. I'm really looking for mass first, and then I'd like to focus more on losing the fat. I'd also like to see higher strength in the gym, like you said around 30-40 lbs to my bench in around 5 weeks. What should my diet be (protein, carbs, fat, calories) on a daily basis?
Thanks! |

As far as supplements, I drink N-large2 30 mins after my workout, I take a centrum once a day, and I'm starting to take Ultimate Creapure 20-30 mins before my workout.

I see that during your workout, you are just drinking gatorade. I would HIGHLY recommend adding a scoop of whey protein into this mixture. And I agree with Rev, it looks like you are simply undereating. I would take your serving of Nlarge DIRECTLY after your workout, then eat another small meal with a good amount of protein and carbs 30-45 minutes after your Nlarge shake. This is a good way to increase your calories for the whole day. Pre and post workout are critical times to get nutrients into the body and to your muscles. One other thing, are taking in enough fats? (olive oil, canola oil, flax oil, natural pb, nuts, avacados or any other healthy fats). Not eating enough EF's could shunt your testosterone production, make sure that is up to par as well.

dahayz,
What's a good protein to mix in with my gatorade? As far as fats, the tuna I eat is in canola oil and sometimes I eat some peanut butter in a sandwich, but that's about. I'll start eating more nuts and avocados to up the healthy fats. |

A good whey protein should do the trick such as 100% Whey by Optimum Nutrition. Other very good choices (although a little bit pricey) would be AST's VP2 Whey Protein Isolate or Nature's Best Isopure Ion-exchanged Whey Isolate.
