You learn by reading. You learn by studying.
You can learn by training other people. But there are some things that you just can't learn anywhere else. Things you can only learn UNDER THE BAR. Things you learn in the gym, and from people that have been in the trenches. The type of shit you don't read about in a human kinetics text book translated from russian and graphed and illustrated.

Good lifting shoes can make a world of difference. Flat soled, close to the ground, no cushion.
I like wrestling shoes. They fit me well and are great not only for squatting and deadlifting, but for things requireing mobility as well.
I know guys that swear by old school high top chuck taylors.
I know a guy that loves his k-swiss and wishes he had bought more.
The point is, get a pair, and put them in your bag.

Somthing I've always wanted to post...was "what goes in your workout bag" I think a good bag should have 3 sections.

2 on side, 1 big one.

On the 1side I think should be chalk..plain and sinmple...a block will last your for a while.

on the other side, I keep my log, water bottle few pens and a caculator...good for figuring up %'s of lifts, maybe a stop watch too. Also batteries,cd player /I-pod what have you.Keep extra batteries in there, just in case they day sucks having to listen to brittany spears or some other bs, for the other half of your workout.

IN the big middle section I keep the following, bands of assorted tensions. knee wraps, a belt, braces(elbow) if needed, wrist wraps, straps( if needed)and my shoes. Also I have an arm blaster I keep in there too for shit and giggles when i'm in the mood to blast my biceps.Sometimes I keep a folder in here, for different workouts etc. Make sure its coated in plastic, just incase it gets wet. Plus nothing like showing somone what your doing and why, if they ask. Also you can put a towel in here too, a small hand towl is fine. Don't need a beach towel.

Chains also go in this pocket however I don't keep them in there all the time, get heavy and bothersome them clanking around. Thats what the trunk of your car is for.

A few other random things if you have room
a can of deodrant
, a clean shirt
and shorts
( may met a friend...or a girl) and may like to go have a beer or somthing afterward. Don't wanna go in pit stained shirt and ass sweaty pants and stinking. These coudl also be kept in your trunk, in another bag for safe keeping.

Ha ha ha, ya'll. But, okay, after I read that, I was like "Damn!" But I can explain it....really.

My bag is hy-uuge: One pocket each side; one in the front; and then of course the big one in the middle. But, look at most of the things. They are really small or collapsable, like the Tiger Balm, badages, etc. But also, like I said, I don't have all of the lifting gear all of the time, like my belt, etc. It all depends on the time of year. The sad thing is, I've used every single item in that bag at one time or another.

The only problem is that carrying that bag works as a pre-exhaust for leg day...and back day...and shoulder day...

It's a little known powerlifters' secret that's been around for years (I started using one years ago). It's used for really heavy lifts, including maxs, is legal in comps, and serves two purposes:
1) It keeps your grill protected from years clenching teeth as a result of heavy lifting.
2) It really helps with focusing your power for max lifts; trust me on this one, as psychological as it sounds. Some studies have shown a 5% increase in 1RM as a result of wearing one.

Thats exactly the stuff I mean rev. You wont find that in a text book.

How bout icy hot. I am addicted to linament. Now heres what you may not know: Want a little extra kick? Heat the linament until it becomes liquid, and add some cayenne pepper.

Hmm i'll have to look into that.

Also hear somthing about putting a towel under your head when inclining. Somthing about the inlinement of head and spine or somthing?

Heard that. Poliquin recommends it...

How bout this little piece of gym rat wisdom; whenever I want to teach someone how to do cable external rotations, they cant seem to grasp the idea of keeping their elbows in. Place a 5lb weight between their obliques and their elbow. If their form falls, the weight falls, and it forces focus. Can also be used to make curls strict.

Always be warm. I like to wear an extra shirt, or long training pants to keep my body temp up. Cuts down on the warm up as well.

Hook grip. Basicly wraping your thumb around the bar, then your fingers around your thumb. You can tape your thumb if its painful, but you get used to it.
Another option is the reverse hook grip. Wrap your thumb around your index and middle finger. This should increase the amount of weight you can hold onto.
