Undo the damage :(

Hello Everyone.
It's been awhile since I posted. Unfortunately I had a bad year and let myself go. I started a new high pressure job in the entertainment industry, got dumped by my boyfriend, and lost contact with a lot of friends due to long hours working and commuting. In short, I became depressed, tired, stressed out and totally heartbroken. I gained thirty pounds due to bad eating habits and no time or energy to excercize. I am now trying to undo the damage. Is it unrealistic to think that I can lose 40 pounds in 5 months? I plan to use the elliptical trainer or the treadmill 45 min 5X/wk and weight train on my lunch hour (full body/3X/week). I plan to eat clean and get in atleast 1500 Calories a/day - maybe less, since I'm sedentary 12 hours of the day.Any suggestions?

No, that is 2 lbs. per week. Very do-able.

focus on nutrition...cut about 500 calories from your caloric intake and make sure the rest of the calories you are eating come from healthy choices in appropriate amounts; try to walk for 20-30 minutes at least once a day, everyday....preferably in the morning and before sleep.....and do whole body weight training 3 days a week...

do not do crazy 1500 calorie diets.....you will be setting yourself to fail....

1500 calories is nowhere near enough if your planning on doing a lot of exercise. eating sensibly, snacking sensibly, cutting junk and increasing your activity will boost your mood, immune system, generally make you feel better and you'll lose the fat and build muscle. try a training diary and check out the recipe thumb tac on the boards. good luck.

Thanks for the advice. The problem is I have a really screwed up metabolism. I am currently 5'6, 170 lbs, with 33% body fat. My rmr is around 1500. Anytime I eat close to 2,000 calories I gain weight or feel way too full. I don't really know what to do now. The only physical activity I get during the day is at the gym. The other 13 are spent sitting down.
