As I have mentioned before, I am out on the road about 10+ months out of the year, so diet is something I'm constantly struggling with depending on where I'm holed up (kitchenette or mini-fridge, and often none of the above).
I was in the drug store, and I saw they sold V8. I remember trying it when I was a kid and nearly barfing, but I figured I'd give it a shot, since my tastes have changed a lot since then. I was able to stomach it this time, and thought it would be awesome if I could get away with using these as my vegetable substitutions while I'm out on the road. The can says it's equal to 2 full servings of vegetables (it includes tomato, carrot, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress and spinach).
It does have a lot of sodium though (880mg), so that would be something I'd need to watch.
Anyhow, any thoughts on this? Are there any advantages to eating normal vegetables vs. drinking vegetable juice? I've been struggling with getting my vegetables into my diet, so this would be great if I could just bring V8 around with me everywhere I go.

I never trusted 'canned' juices as much as the real thing. Besides, the real thing, vitamins, fiber, etc. are intact. Most 'whole food' is utilized much more efficiently, i.e...vitamins, minerals for example are much more utilzed when contained in whole foods. V8 however in a pinch is better if you need calories than 'other' less dubious choices.

V8 does make a low sodium variety as well.

Additionaly, sodium is a highly overrated 'problem'. Another media scare. Unless you have pre existing or current hypertension, sodium is not really an issue. If you are a normal healthy person, sodium is fine.
