Have any of you men out there had a vasectomy that would care to share? I've got my husband considering one but I just wanted to get the opinion of someone who has had one. How was the pain, recovery, etc...

exactly what andrew had to say. I'm thinking about having one done, when I get into my mid thirties.

Pain depends on the "gentleness" of the surgeon. Lasts a few weeks. Stairs become an enemy for a bit. The long term benefits very much out weighed the short term suffering for me. I did it at 31. It is expensive to reverse, so be sure that you don't want children from this point forward.

My wife and I talked about it...she got her tubes tied. I backed out when the quack told me where he was gonna stick that needle.

My husband had it done several years ago, after the birth of our second child. Pretty straight forward, but you might want to have a bag of frozen peas on hand:)

We decided that since I took care of the birth control up until then, it was his turn. I love the fact that we don't have to worry about it anymore.

Been there done that!

Mine was a 15 minute procedure...awake no less, about 3 days in bed with an ice pack (or frozen peas as suggested) and for another year I would occassionally get twinges...like there was a little man down there trying to be in the UFC.

Other then that it's not bad and I knew someone that requested to be put under during the procedure and they did it...but the price goes up quite a bit for that. Mine was only $500...insurance doesn't cover it either.

Oh and buy a couple of jock straps...he'll need them for support for a few weeks.

Otherwise the best part is for a month after the procedure...at least for him...without being to graphic you have to act like bunnies for a short time to flush the system before they can declare the surgery a success and then birth control can be a thing of the past.

It's uncomfortable but it's not a major thing. Like said above, an ice is a good thing to have around but I was back at work (although walking bowlegged) the next day and did my fitness run 3 days later. Just make sure if he does go through with it that he goes back for a sperm check when scheduled. I didn't. :)

Good point Mike, I have friends that didn't and they now have more kids as a result.

LOL, You reminded me that my husband didn't bother going back for the sperm check either...He said "if there are any of the little buggers left, what am I going to do, go get it done again...NOT..." Luckily the vasec. worked and didn't hurt me one bit:)

My hubby had it done and it was an in & out procedure..took all of 10 mins...he didnt have much pain, until the next day he decided to lift something heavy, then he said it felt like his balls were being crushed..

Overall tho he said it was an easy experience..MUCH easier for a man to get a V than it is for a woman to get an tubal

My Hubby had it done and was laid up for a bit.. but he wouldnt take it easy like he was told so his recovery took a bit longer. I know of 2 of his friend who didnt slow down either and they got an infection. Still worth it in the long run..no chance of little ones running around if the count has hit zero...:laugh:
