Why do food manufacturers insist on wrecking perfectly good food by adding rubbish to it!
I was looking for kidney beans yesterday and could only find them tinned in "sugared water". WHY do they have to sugar the water? WHY add vegetable oil or salt to nuts? WHY tin tuna in vegetable oil? WHY can I not find bran flakes without sugar added? Surely if people want to eat this crap they can add it to the food themselves? Or would it take too much effort?:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry: |

Good morning Princess!!
The only reasons I can think of is that they pretty much count on us reading only the little numbers and not the list of ingredients....or maybe counting on the fact that our society is addicted to taste and not nutrition. I don't know. Anyway...here, I made you a cup of coffee...no rubbish in this, promise. |

Well, as you know I am prone to losing my coffee cup, especially if I am wearing a low-cut shirt. However, I have also mislaid my coffee in microwaves, cars, and even once in a dresser drawer.-------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

I once set mine on the back of my car and drove all the way to the store and back...and one time I set it in the freezer while taking out the potential supper goods. Of course, I accused my boys of hiding it from me and had to revoke their punishment when I found it in there the next morning.:surprised: |

I am in complete agreement here princess. Sometimes when we go to the grocery store I feel like I have read a book by the time I leave, reading so many lables and putting the item back due to the ingredients added as you posted.

That irks me as well. Why do they need to cook some foods with hydrogenated oils? It's bad enough they add unnecessary fats and sugars already, but why take it the step further and add fats you can never burn!?

I have been of the mind that the food chain is more responsible for the so called common diseases than anything. Very few of us die of old age, living out our normal lifespan. In every person that lives to be 100 or older, they all have one thing in common, a healthy immune system. But, immune system decrases with age? I say no, it is more decreased through improper nutrion from sources such as hydrogenated oils, which produce free radicals which in turn bombard our cells. This over time weakens the immune system to a point where these "common" diseases now have the ability to strike us down. The illnesses do not happen overnight, but the symptoms do on a daily basis. Keep your immune system strong, eat a healthy diet and take your antioxidants. Knowlege is power folks!!!
Sorry, got on a rant, but this is a subject that has been dear and near to my heart for a very long time. I am all about health, nutrion, diet, and bodybuilding is secondary. I have been preaching antioxidants and good eating habits for years before I started bodybuilding. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

I also find I spend ages perusing labels, and so often I find something totally unnecessary added and have to look for something else. I try to just stick to fresh food as much as possible, but I work funny hours and I can't eat fresh food all the time.
I reckon I am very health conscious and motivated, but if I find it hard sometimes to get healthy food, and I know what I'm looking for, what chance does your average joe have? I spoke to someone recently who was concerned about high cholesterol - I asked him if he liked fish, and he replied "yes, but my favourite is mackerel, and it's no use, it's full of fat" - this just illustrates how ill-informed many people are. |

Yep, and again it is the media's fault. They pushed the no fat scare into folks so much that many are so fataphobic they cannot comprehend some fats are good for you and needed. I also spend lots of time grocery shopping with my mother because of all the bad things that I have to put back on the shelf. I get tired of it sometimes and it's very agravating...could there be an Isle just for the healthy eaters, and then another for all the unhelathy eaters? That would really help. Or just a protein isle or something... I'm tired of searching all the meats for they're protein and fat content I don't know which ones to get and how to make it taste good or at least better without adding on all of the things that are bad for you which should be found in the unhealthy isle.

stick to the circumference of the store - produce, meat and bulk.
