Hi, I'm using this site as a means to moderate what I eat, and to discipline myself into working out regularly....I'm finding that at the end of the day i'm ending up with tons of vitamin A in my diet....how much is too much??? (if there is such thing as too much)

Not knowing how old you are vitamin A requirements differ for adults and children. Assuming your an adult, 5000 IU is recommended. STudies and research has shown that humans cannot use more than 50,000Iu per day except in therapeutic cases. It is not a water solubale vitamin, so it does not leave your body through urination. So how much is tons? If you are finding abnormalities in the skin, headaches, loss of appetite, itch and flakey skin, cut back. You would have to be taking massive doses for months though to reach these symptoms. Vitamin C will help fight the effects of too much vitamin A . Hope this helps. And what the heck are you eating to get tons of "A".

You should get your Vitamin A from Beta Carotene. BC is converted to Vit. A as necessary. Too much Vit. A can be toxic.

I find I am getting a lot of vit. A too. The reading is excellent everyday and I wonder what I am eating to give me the vit. A.
I'll have to look at each food in detail and see which foods have it. R.

According to this article, 1.5+ mg of Vitamin A can be dangerous, it weakens your bones.

My multivitamin has 5000 IUs, which it seems according to the article is 1.5 mg. I hate to bury my question in a reply, but it seems appropriate. Do you think I should stop taking the multivitamin? It's a generic version of Theragran, if that means anything to anyone (I don't know much about vitamin supplements). I'm thinking about just taking it every other day.

By tons I mean 38,000ug...(if that's even the correct means of measurement)....i'm not sure how that converts into mg...and i'm not sure how i'm getting so much. I usually eat yogurt everyday...fruits and vegis...I have no idead really!! (I'm 25)

What is giving you that info? One couldn't possibly eat that much.

It says that 1 tomato has almost a 1000 ug of vitamin A. If i eat 2 a day i am over my limit! Not sure how that works, maybe someone can tell me more about vitamin A!
