I would like to take this opportunity to urge all who can do so to exercise your rights and go vote on Tuesday, no matter what your political persuasion. I am sure we all will, just a friendly reminder.

Howdie you may be right. I gave my year old nephew a dancing Elmo last year and it scared the hell out of him. I gave my 2 year old nephew a Billy Bass and he kept pointing at it and saying "Uncle Charlie"!! I went and got a haircut and I felt better.

Hurricane Ivan made it easier for us here in Pensacola. The majority of polling sites got knocked out so half our county got mail in ballots a couple of weeks ago.

We held a voting party last Sunday and our whole family voted and mailed them in. The one thing I do want to say though, is if you have kids that are just old enough to vote, help them decide who to vote for by discussing the pro's and con's, don't let your kid say "hey mom, who do I vote for on this one" and tell them who. My sister in law voted exactly the same as her parents because she had no idea who was who and what was what. Talk to them about issues beforehand!

It is slightly worrying that people vote like that for someone who will have greater influence on UK foreign policy than anyone I vote for.

From a Canadian point of view, the voting process seems like a lot of work to me... machines and handles and such? Is it that much easier than our system of placing an X in a circle on a ballot sheet? Does it make it quicker?

UGH, I do not, I repeat, do not like the electoral college, provisional ballots, or absentee ballots!!!

People who wish to vote should get themselves squared away before the day of the election! Then, there wouldn't need to be any provisional ballots handed out or counted/discounted.

There's got to be a better way to count those absentee votes! They should count too. I hate that they'll call an election based on the precints reporting and not have the absentee ballots added in. That could make a difference!!

The electoral college I dislike because of how the votes can be split between the two candidates. I want my vote and everyone else who votes to have their vote count for one vote. Not have to use the electoral college to decide that they want to split the electorates!!!

I have always and will continue to support the military serving, but they didn't have to vote Bush back in!!! I know they are only part of the population and they trust their commander in chief and it's their job/duty to do what is asked of them, but I also believe that a change in office, even during a war would have been better than Bush for another 4 years!!

I am happy that all exercised their right to vote as they please. As far as my politics, I have found it better to keep that as my personal issues.

In the end, history will be the judge, right or wrong.

Well, in my effort to understand the system in the States, I discovered the Electoral College to be rather confusing... after reading the information I found (www.howstuffworks.com) I got the impression the entire democratic process of voting by the people wasn't completely necessary... am I correct? Even though Bush was 'declared' the winner, do they still have to go through the process in December with the president of the Senate?

And phim, I agree... the absentee vote should be counted... we had a number of people here in Canada trying to get relocated Americans to cast thier vote.... it appears that entire effort may have been in vain if they don't count...

Just my thoughts in an effort to understand the US voting process....

The provisionalvotes ARE counted if it's necessary. For instance....if a candidate has a lead of 150,000 votes on election day from the polls, then let's say there are a total of 140,000 provisional votes. It's not really necessary to count the provisional votes is it.

The provisional votes are votes which the voter doesn't show up in the proper pricinct. They must be verified as to elegibility before they can count. Thats in case Tim tries to vote twice. Make sense??

In the case of the Ohio situation there was about a 140,000 vote lead for Bush in the polls. There were about 175,000 provisional votes. Kerry would have had to get all but 35,000 votes to tie. On top of that, the absentee ballots were mostly military and military was overwhelmingly for Dubya. Not much point in pressing the issue.

Phimugirl, Kerry voted for years to gut the military and intelligence community with spending cuts. If you're in the military and living below the poverty level , putting your life on the line at the expense of your family , which you can't support then its understandable why they have a hard time getting behind him as commander in chief.

As a Viet Nam vet who remembers Kerry going to Hanoi to receive a citizenship award from the peoples republic for his testimony against the soldiers he fought with it kind of sticks in my craw. As I said in another post I still voted for Kerry because I see no end plan in Iraq and we've alienated all possible allies. I believe the president did the right thing going into Iraq but it was not very well planned. Sadam had 12 years to comply with UN resolutions and he failed. France Russia and Germany were getting rich off the oil for food program. The UN is full of crap and corrupt. Bush had no choice. This is all sad and scary.

My vote didn't matter in my state because NC carried Bush overwhelmingly. The impotence and frustration with Bush drove me to vote this way. I am glad I didn't live in Ohio or my vote may have fallen the other way.

Now Bush is my president. We are at war. I support him 100%. Isn't it great that we have the right and privledge to choose?

Yes, it's great that we have the right and priveledge to choose!!!

I just wish that more people who do vote didn't rely so heavily on those ridiculous ads that are run by both parties. Those are another thing that I think should be pulled because they are blatantly childish, but as bb1fit said it's sometimes best to keep one's opinions/views under hat. :)
