Walking will burn some calories and help tone you a little, very little IMO. There are other things that will burn more calories such as cardio and HIIT. And a weight lifting routine will tone you much better.

it depends on how fast you walk how far and long you walk. walking can become a cardio. you can also incorporate HIIT with your walking. I personally do power walking in our neighborhood with my son in his stroller. And have been incorporating HIIT with it... I start out at a good pace and then every other block i increase the intensity by walking faster... if you want more infor on HIIT there are several good articles posted here... just type HIIT into the fitbuddy
